Villain is way over aggressive so I decide to let him do the betting. I'm paying off TT and figure since I have the A (and a J) I'm not too worried about overcards. I think my raise on the river is too big but I was targetting this guy. Already bluff-raised him on the river once and took it down, figured he would be getting sick of it soon. This is a pretty bad call preflop though isn't it?

Big donk move of the day:
Muppet shorty goes all-in on the buttio. I call with QQJ9ds, flop comes QTJ and I check/push against a pot bet. I knew he had AK for the straight but... come on! Am I supposed to fold top set!?

2 hours played, net profit: -$0.78 (hey, at least I am actually having fun playing... Hold'em is boring)

hand 1

this was discussed last thread. if you think a pf reraise will thin the field AND you can get a lot of your stack in PF AND you don't mind the variance, then raise. otherwise, i think you played it fine. if you think he's getting cheeky because he was the preflop raiser and was just CBing, you can raise the flop and not put any more money in the pot if he calls or reraises. he could have something as little as the nut flush draw or an overpair.

hand 2

something similar was discussed in goopers journal. honestly, i'd check behind on the river with this underfull. Q9 is not an unusual holding. you're usually going to be way ahead or way behind here, so the only hands that call are usually going to be the ones that beat you.

hand 3

limping pf is bad... esp. due to position. calling a raise is worse. i think your post flop play is not bad given your reads and your hand, but it's a bit on the aggressive side given that you're betting into two players. that being said, given the relatively uncoordinated board, i'd probably try this once in a while, too. fwiw, you'll end up getting trapped for your stack if you pull stuff like this often. also, i don't see a river raise -- are you referring to the turn or is the HH messed up?

hand 4

given your position, you might want to CB here on the flop. checking is not bad either. i like to mix it up. otherwise, this doesn't seem bad.

Donk move

what are the two dimes numbers. you might have really good equity if you have any flush or backdoor flush draws. if you are certain that villain has the str8, you can push so you can see two cards or peel one off if you want to play low-variance. i wouldn't call this a donk move at all.

There was a flush draw out but I didn't have it (neither did he), but he had low two-pair so he was blocking my boat outs as well. I think I was 27% or so when I checked afterwards.

You're right about the #3 hand. I copy/pasted the wrong one, here's the one where I slowplayed. I think you can understand the mixup...

Dealt to Hero [Jh] [Ad] [4s] [Td]
CMac9 folds.

Turnis calls [$0.25].
cozslipper checks.
Johnnyj580 folds.
Yrsa_mormor folds.
rounders628 calls [$0.25].
btforys11 folds.
Hero calls [$0.25].
rtgo3 calls [$0.15].
nawaspoker checks.
** Dealing Flop ** [4c] [4d] [Tc]
rtgo3 checks.
nawaspoker checks.
Turnis checks.
cozslipper checks.
rounders628 bets [$1.45].
Hero calls [$1.45].
rtgo3 folds.
nawaspoker folds.
Turnis folds.
cozslipper folds.
** Dealing Turn ** [8d]
rounders628 bets [$4.20].
Hero calls [$4.20].
** Dealing River ** [Qd]
rounders628 bets [$2.91].
Hero raises [$20.93].

Now my commenst should make more sense.

Hand #2 where I have the underfull, if I won't bet the river when I boat up, I can't call the turn bet can I? I only get 3:1 so without implied odds don't I need to fold?

Yeah I had him on the flush and hoped he would call. I think you missed that he had the flush, I didn't have the best hand on the turn.

Is it that unusual for people to call with a flush/straight when the board pairs?

Dealt to Hero [ As Js Jc 8s ]
hines551 calls [$0.25].
BCNP_PET_511 folds.
REPTIL111 folds.
Yrsa_mormor calls [$0.25].

** Dealing Flop ** [ Jh, 7s, 6h ]
nawaspoker checks.
krazyjim checks.
hines551 checks.
Yrsa_mormor checks.
xneogenesisx checks.
Hero bets [$1.45].
nawaspoker folds.
krazyjim folds.
hines551 calls [$1.45].
Yrsa_mormor folds.
xneogenesisx folds.

** Dealing Turn ** [ Kh ]
hines551 checks.
Hero checks.

** Dealing River ** [ 6s ]
hines551 bets [$2.19].
Hero raises [$10.77].
hines551 calls [$8.58].
Hero shows [ As, Js, Jc, 8s ] a full house, Jacks full of sixes.
hines551 doesn't show [ 3c, Th, Ah, 9d ] a flush, ace high.
Hero wins $24.69 from the main pot with a full house, Jacks full of sixes.

Here I again have Villain on the flush. Obviously I am beat by K6, KK and 66.

hand 1 - you played it fine. you couldn't make a real raise and that flop isn't good for you. Saving money is as good as winning money.

Hand 2 - I think you played it perfectly. That's some of the most tricky and smart play i've seen at that level. He knew exactly what you had and was willing to check to you with the nuts. You do not see that often as someone will lead out into you 99.9% of the time. I play the same way and I suggest you put a note on that guy and stay out of his way.

Hand 3 - Fold that preflop for a limp definitely, and don't call a raise. The reason to do that is the exact situation you got on the flop. You likely have the best hand on the flop but it is very unlikely to stay that way. You just happened to hit a great card on the turn (barring someone with the case AA). Your situation on the flop could go all three ways (call, fold, raise) on the flop and I'm not happy with any of them.

Hand 4 - I fold that to the turn bet. Nothing you can hit will make me happy with that hand as all of them could be dominated.

Donk Hand - i've folded many top sets against known made straights. If you had a gutshot redraw to broadway, maybe but you also have one of your own boat outs too. Depending on the pot, the opponents stack and his willingness to pay off if the board pairs, i likely fold the flop to a pot bet.

The slowplay - Since you got 2 of the 4 overs to the T, I don't mind waiting for the turn but I don't wait til the river, especially when one of the cards you don't have hits like that. I rarely slowplay at all in omaha as shit happens too often when you do.

Last hand - I think you played that hand great. people try to get fancy with their flushes. If he wanted to slow play, he should def not lead out on river and DEF should not call your raise but people do so let them. I'm not scared of a higher boat and i'll put my whole stack in usually like this.

hey stone,

you're right about the flush... sorry.

i probably shouldn't have answered your post today. the first post was mostly written while i was talking to my wife on the phone. the rest of them were written as "breaks" from a busy work day. i definitely didn't pay enough attention. as such, please take any of my comments in this thread (and probably others  ) with a grain of salt.

the donkey play of the day was also exactly that... calling or pushing was not right if you definitely put him on the str8. depends on flush draws, but i don't recall that info being available.

Hand 1 - fine.

Hand 2 - fine. Against more cautious players I may make a milking bet as he likely has a flush and your play so far strongly suggests you have a boat. At 25 level he'll probably pay off the max bet you can make tho.

Hand 3 - mostly, I like it. On the flop I'm more comfortable raising, though it does leave you in trouble if he calls and a multitude of scare cards hit. Smooth calling seems a bit weak as there's not too many cards you want to see on the turn; it seems a better play heads up, as he'll likely fear any of the draws and thus give you some potential bluff equity and disguise your hand.

Hand 4 - fine, though calling on the turn seems a bit daft. Were you intending to try to take it away from him on a certain river?

Hand #4, yeah if "Yrsa" hadn't called I would definetely have bluffed the river unless I made my flush (in which case I just call if he bets a decent size and make a smallish raise if he bets small). When Yrsa called I immediatly cancelled that plan, he was not the kind to fold to a river too easily.
