Here's one

Screw Your Neighbor - everyone starts with 3 pegs (chips or markers). The object is to not be the lowest person. Aces are low. Everyone is dealt one card face down. The first person chooses to stay or pass to the person on his left. That person must pass the card unless it is a king which blocks passes and is the highest card. If he had a king, he would turn it over to show. Once the decision is made, the next person to the left goes. If he received a card as a pass, he may choose to stay if his card is higher than the one he just passed as he will not be the lowest. This goes until everyone has had a turn. The last person may not pass but choose to stay or take a hit from the top of the deck if needed and that becomes his card. After that, everyone turns over their cards and whoever is the lowest, loses a peg. If there is a tie for lowest, both put one in. The person that goes first is then rotated clockwise so everyone has a chance to go first and last. Do not reshuffle in used cards until there are not enough cards to play a round. Last person with a peg left wins. If playing for money, you can add an ante and make each peg a certain amount.

How about No Peek,

everyone gets 7 cards, face down, and you are not allowed to look at the identity of the cards. Ther first person flips over one card, everyone bets, then the person to the left flips over his/her cards one at a time until their high card beats the persons before them, or until they make a poker hand; pair, trips... This continues, as each person flips over their cards until they have the highest hand. between each time someone else has to flip there is betting.

ex the best hand on the board is a pair of 7's. you have 6, 8 in front of you. if you flip another 8 you have the high pair, everyone bets, and then the next person flips their cards until they can beat your pair of 8's

hope that wasn't too confusing.

The favorite among my friends in our home game is a variation of No Peek called Night Baseball. Played just like 7 Card No Peek but with threes and nines wild and fours you get an extra card. Its hard to call this "poker" because nobody ever folds but the hand possibilities are a lot of fun.

"5's & 10's" and "Low in the Hole"

Postby Kidoubled » Thu Feb 23, 2006 1:07 pm

Hi Molina,

"5's & 10's"

5's & 10's is a good home game.. It is played like 7 card stud only all 5's & 10's are wildcards.. There is one catch though... If a player receives a 5 and 10 face up, they are eliminated from the hand..!! If they receive two 5's face up that is ok, they are not eliminated, same goes if they receive two 10's face up..!! Sure makes it interesting!!

"Low in the Hole"

This game is also dealt the same as 7 card stud. In this game each player's lowest card dealt face down is wild along with any card of the same denomination that is face up on their board only. For example; player 1 gets dealt down [ Ad, 4c ] and porch card is a 4s.. this would mean they have trip Aces!! Here's the interesting part.. on the river if a 2 gets dealt to this player, now the 4's are no longer wild and any 2 is.!! You can from a full boat to a weak hand in a heartbeat or vice versa!! Sure keeps many in the pot til the end!!

I hope these help!!

I have one that I always liked to call when we played dealers choice at the weekly poker game back in my Navy days.
It's called 7 - 27, it's sort of a H/L variation game. And it's EXTREMELY fun!
All face cards are worth .5 of a point, aces are 1 point only, the rest of the cards have their face value.
Everyone is dealt 2 cards face down and one card face up, each person decides whether they want to go for high (27) or low (7) and they keep this to themselves, they can change from low to high as the game progresses if they choose to do so, say they were drawing towards 7 and hit a bad card that put them way over. The exception to this is that if they skip three rounds without taking a card, they cannot switch back and start taking cards again.
You try to get as close as possible to either 7 or 27. You can go over.
7.5 would beat 6.
27.5 would beat 26.
After the deal, there is a round of betting. 3 raises allowed per round of betting.
Then each player in turn is given the option to take another card which is dealt face up. There are unlimited rounds until there are no more cards being taken by any player.
Then there is one final round of betting.
So basically if just one guy is going for low he can keep shoving chips in every round until the folks all going for high finally stop taking cards.

What to expect:
A bit of confusion at first since it's a new game to them. But only for about 1 hand, maybe 2 if they are dense.
We always played nickel, dime, quarter stakes. Max raise was .75
Believe it or not I have seen pots in this game get as high as $60, granted that was with a lot of crazy raising and reraising going on as the guys I played with sometimes tended to drink a little. (What? A sailor drink? You gotta be kidding me! )
If your friends are afraid to play you because you're a poker pro, just ask them if they can count to 27. That's all the ability needed to "play" the game. Now you being a poker pro, you will find places to put you knowledge of odds to work for you. This is a really easy game for someone who can count cards at BJ I would guess.
And being able to read people is a major asset in this game!

EDIT: After reading Kuso's comment in the posts below, about remembering the rules, I will mention that if a bunch of drunk sailors can remember the rules, they must be easy.

My home game crew has liked playing Chicago (high spade in the hole wins half the pot) and Crazy Pineapple along with more traditional games.

Chicago is good. we would sometimes make it low spade in the hole that splits and call it 'Detroit'.

I'm a sucker for what we called 'roll your own': 7-card stud but the first 3 cards are dealt facedown. then each person picks one card to turn face up; cards of this rank then become his/her personal wild card. the hand proceeds as normal 7-card stud.

5-card stud is a good game for a group of friends b/c it's super bluffy and fun to watch.
