Villian in question is a decent player, and by that I mean his VPIP is is 39% which puts him in the tigher 75% of the players in my DB and he hasnt dont anything stupid so far at this table .

Well, I don't see a flop in SB with that hand, but I like both the bet and the fold.

He could be betting some big wrap, but I have no interest in drawing dead vs. QQ.

I think the only choices here are re-potting and folding, and I really can't see repotting with middle set--I doubt I'd do it even against a complete idiot.

I really hate middle / bottom set. I don't like them because it is too easy for someone to push you off the hand. In this case, there are lots of holding that you beat like a wrap or 2 pair, but you have to fold because you could be dominated.

Because of this I prefer checking the flop to see where I am at. If someone pots I can easily get away from it, and if it checks through you can re-evaluate. Basically, I think you get the same knowledge from a bet or a check, but the check costs you less.

I think it depends a lot on the field, Goop. At the $50 level, if it's at all like the tables I was playing, you're probably right. But even at most $100 tables and certainly at $200 tables, if you're not willing to take a stab at middle set, you just end up getting absolutely no action--at least my experience.

I really think of this bet primarily as an action-generator on future hands (similarly betting top two). Also, if I get a flat call rather than a raise, I know pretty much exactly where I'm at. Anyhow, I don't have a problem with doing some bet-fold plays in Omaha. I LIKE seeing them raise me, because I can then repot when I do have top set, and they're generally in serious trouble. This just doesn't pay off if they're constantly taking shots at you or calling with near nothing. Then just straight nutpeddling works best, as far as I can tell.
