When a Rock repots on the end

Postby emmasdad » Tue Mar 21, 2006 1:52 am

I suspect that I am beat after the river raise by Button. Should I just call his raise rather than push (he only had another $4 in front of him)? What about if we had deeper stacks? This is the second time I have lost a stack in similar circumstances. Does anyone else get away from it, or am I obligated to pay this off for a full stack and move on. Button is a rock and has shown no aggression in 45 minutes of play at another table, and I just sat down at this one.

Also, what about my turn raise? I thought that a non-nut flush might pot and I was going for a weak lead-repot. Should I just pot here? When I read the history I really don't like my weak lead on the turn.

PokerStars Pot-Limit Omaha High, $0.25 BB (7 handed)

UTG ($10.65)
MP1 ($23.70)
MP2 ($24.15)
CO ($19)
Button ($21.95)
SB ($60.05)
Hero ($24.30)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [7c], [Jh], [2d], [Ad].
3 folds, CO calls $0.25, Button calls $0.25, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: ($1) [7d], [8d], [Qs] (4 players)
SB bets $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, CO calls $0.25, Button calls $0.25.

Turn: ($2) [Td] (4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.75, CO folds, Button calls $0.75, SB calls $0.75.

River: ($4.25) [9c] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $4.05, Button raises to $16.2, SB folds, Hero raises to $23.05, Button calls $4.50 (All-In).

Final Pot: $48

Results in white below:

Outcome: Button wins $45.65. Hero wins $2.35.

unless the villain is a winning rock with low aggression stats, i always get in all in the middle with the nut flush on an unpaired board (up to about 100bbs). i've seen too many seemingly "solid" players get busted with second nut flushes when they got aggro with it.

also, given the gap on the board, you really can't be too worried about the str8 flush... it's going to happen. i think getting the last $4 in the middle is fine, as you will be looking at a lower flush or a bluff more often than the str8 flush.

with deep stacks against a "solid" player, i'd probably just call as i would really hate to be reraised for my whole stack. i think this might be a weak point in my game -- i know that i've left money on the table when i didn't reraise in situations like this. i guess i would be ok with reraising IF villain's potential pot reraise would only be to 100-150 bbs. yeah, i don't like paying off morons big when they hit a monster (although i have done it).

as for your turn bet (if that's what it was), i don't really like it. SB gets proper odds to call with a set.

i like to jam the nut flush. sometimes they all fold, sometimes they don't. fwiw, i also do this as a bluff, so some people like to look me up and/or reraise with a lower flush. whatever happens, the sets rarely get proper odds to call (requires a lot of callers ahead of them).

actually, i think i like a check raise on the river. If he has a straight flush and its just one stack at this level, i pay it off.

yeah, the turn bet should be pot bet
