2 Hands - help

Postby bdon22 » Thu Nov 30, 2006 1:15 am

Here are two hands from tonight in Stars $10+1 SNG 3-tables. Comments would be helpful as I'm pretty new to analysing my hands after a game is over.

Btw I'm having trouble getting the hand converter to work, any tips?

Hand 1:
My read on the player I am up against is very aggressive. The last 2 hands he was in he bluffed at in LP vs 1 other (I got to see his cards at showdown) and I have also seen him raise/CB in LP with trash like 97o vs a passive player. I haven't been playing many hands, this was probably my 2nd or 3rd VPIP and I felt that I would try to win a small pot before the blinds went up to 50/100 which was approaching soon.

PokerStars Game #7234135628: Tournament #36985867, $10+$1 Hold'em No Limit - Level III (25/50) - 2006/11/30 - 00:07:50 (ET) Table '36985867 1' 9-max

Seat 2: pacers3107 (2585 in chips)
Seat 3: gmoney248 (625 in chips)
Seat 5: 1deadeye1 (1855 in chips)
Seat 6: bdon22 (1390 in chips)
Seat 8: pronk99 (1970 in chips)
hangforever: posts small blind 25
pacers3107: posts big blind 50
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to bdon22 [Jc] [Tc]
gmoney248: folds
1deadeye1: folds
bdon22: raises 150 to 200
pronk99: calls 200
hangforever: folds
pacers3107: folds
*** FLOP *** [Qc] [6h] [Kd]
bdon22: bets 250
gmoney248 has returned
pronk99: calls 250
*** TURN *** [Qc] [6h] [Kd] [2c]
bdon22: checks
pronk99: bets 1520 and is all-in

From a pot odds point of view, I think I'm ~34% to win if I put him on an overpair but that's not counting if he's bluffing or has a 6. The pot is 1915 and it costs me 940 to call, so I need to win at least 44% to break even. Should I have pushed first? I don't think he'd lay it down since the [2c] was a blank. Now that I look back on it, I was trying to steal, and after my CB failed on the flop I probably should give up the pot unless given the right odds. Edit: I should have given up after the flop.

Hand 2:
8 handed, starting pot is 500. My M is 7. Folded to me at CO+1 where I pick up [8c] [8h]. Push?

PokerStars Game #7235014956: Tournament #36988141, $10+$1 Hold'em No Limit - Level VII (100/200) - 2006/11/30 - 01:22:17 (ET) Table '36988141 1' 9-max

Seat 7: MaccMan13 (6460 in chips)
Seat 8: URstacksHERE (4960 in chips)
Seat 9: JrockPS (1830 in chips)

I don't have a SNG Power Tool key but I can see now how it would be useful.

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

Hand one--I'd have no problem pushing all in with 15 outs. You have a better chance in this one that you may later on. To win a tournament, there's no getting around the fact you have to get lucky to win.

Hand two--I would limp and re-evaluate if raised.

Both of these are why it's gotten so much harder to play SNG's, now. 8 left with blinds of 100/200! They are now so weak/tight that you have to be much more aggressive and take more chances, imho. In Hand 2, you can take advantage of the weak/tight to see a flop cheap, if you can, and push on the flop, unless there is a raise, when you would depend on your read.

I haven't seen much out and out stealing in the last SNG's played. (Except by me)

1) Foid/ Or Shove preflop. Shoving is not really a good play so I would just fold.
2) A) Raise 4x bb and shove the flop no matter what flops. B) Fold Preflop.

I 10 table the 6`s at stars and use play A quite a large amount of time. Ussually it is when I have a smaller stack which after my raise leaves a decent amount left for which they have to call with. After playing probably 100 in the last couple days, it simply becomes a question of volume to succeed in these. Your optimum play is ussually justy to play really tight and pretty much fold everything and exploit the [AK vs KQ] edge which seems to occur in pretty much all of them.
