<whew>... it's been a long time, hasn't it? Let me update you a little bit on how I've been doing.
Constantly building my bankroll, I've graduated to the partypoker $200 SNGs! It is intense up there, but so far I've been able to grit out about a 10% ROI playing two tables at a time, staggered by 20 minutes (so that one is in the boring rounds while the other is in the end game). Only 50 trials though, so who knows. I can make a consistant 16% or so two-tabling the $100s, so there's a chance that I've hit my most profitable game already, in which case I'll just have to move down in stakes and settle in there. I've been making over $30 an hour at the 100s, which is better than I have ever thought I would be able to do in the long run.
Sadly, concentrating on actual poker playing has taken me away from this forum, which I'm glad to note has thrived in my absense. You guys's posts, especially on the "new paradigm" topic and a few others, taught me some things I hadn't considered before.
My frustration at the higher-stakes SNGs is that I'm no longer making any money by avoiding 8th-10th place finishes -- I'm finishing in the bottom three 29% of the time at the $100 and $200 level combined. Ahg, not too many idiots around, even on peak hours. About half of my ROI comes from being better when it's 4-5 handed, and the other half comes from heads-up play. Assuming I make the top 2, I finish first almost 65% of the time. I would really like to find a way to cut down my 7th place finishes, where I finish 14% of the time, but I'm afraid that would cost me when it gets down to 5 in terms of having a lower chip stack, and it might actually hurt my ITM.
Anyway, I'm curious to know who else here has moved up to the $50 tables or higher on Party Poker, and what you think of the changes in competition. See you at the tables!
