This was technically a multitable tournament, but since it only had 10 players, I'm posting it here. This is a freeroll on GamesGrid and since they have 9-player tables, we were split onto 2 tables of 5. The tournament is NL HE and everyone starts with 1000 chips. The blind structure is essentially the same as Pokerstars. First pays $70 and Second pays $30.
In the second hand of the tournament, you get KK in the SB and you stack after posting is 970. It folds to the button, who raises to 80 (4xBB). You have him covered by 30.
You raise to 180 (does this sound right? would anyone bet anything else?) - and he calls.
The flop is ten high with no reasonable straight or flush draws. The pot is 370 and you have 790 left in your stack. What is your action and why? (BTW - in case there's any question here, you are extremely confident you have him by the teeth here - TT or AA are both possibilities - but if he has them, you will lose your stack).
To me, this situation is mostly about risk and reward. By letting him bet, you will probably get him allin as a significant favorite, however, it is pretty likely he has an ace. If you check and he checks behind and an ace comes on the turn - you have to be able to fold. Moreover, if the turn is a queen or a jack - are you willing to fold (giving him credit for a large pocket pair)?
For me, I decided I wanted to take the pot down here - any bet that I make will commit the both of us to the pot - so I decided to just push. If he folds, I'm happy with the pot and am ready for the next hand; if he calls - I know I've got him by a large margin. He could easily call this with TP and any kicker (though AT might be a remote possibility in a full table, 5-handed - I think it is a solid raising hand; KT or QT seem pretty unlikely - but I've never played against him - so you never know).
So what do you think?
