Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t40 (9 handed)

SB (t1355)
BB (t2215)
UTG (t1685)
UTG+1 (t1010)
MP1 (t1120)
Hero (t1590)
MP3 (t1775)
CO (t1260)
Button (t2990)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [8c], [7c].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls t40, MP1 calls t40, Hero calls t40, 1 fold, CO raises to t80, 2 folds, BB calls t40, UTG+1 calls t40, MP1 calls t40, Hero calls t40.

Boy do I really hate minraises...

Flop: (t420) [3d], [5c], [4c] (5 players)
BB bets t40, UTG+1 calls t40, MP1 folds, Hero raises to t100, CO raises to t160, BB calls t120, UTG+1 calls t120, Hero calls t60.

I LOVE raising my draws... Then idiot minraises AGAIN... UGH...

Turn: (t1060) [Ac] (4 players)
BB bets t40, UTG+1 calls t40, Hero pushes allin, CO folds, BB folds, UTG+1 folds.

There's already 1000 chips in the pot, so if they all fold, I'm pretty happy... I'm pretty sure none of them also have a flush, but I don't want some idiot chasing w/ a naked [Kc] ... I thought this was a PERFECT turn to get someone w/ A5 or the completed straight to call here... Is this a good move...?

Final Pot: t1180

Results in white below:
No showdown. Hero wins t1180.

I probably would have done the same thing. The only possibility that you were beat here was by some idiot a deuce or a couple of other clubs, but that's so remote that you can almost ignore it.

What do you suppose those other three had who were in the hand on the turn? An 8 or something?

I am usually wary of a small raise inot a decent sizede pot, don't know if he's trapping me or just one last feeble attempt at buying the pot. Howerver, this T30 raise into a T1000 pot is just whacked.....and would eliminate my fears about a trap. I also don't worry about another flush. CO has played this like a middle pair to me, I also like chasing out the naked Q or K. I like the play here (not that that means anyhting...lol)

Looks good to me. What stakes SNG are you playing? I found that raising my draws works alot better in higher stakes SNGs, because people are paying attention to image and they're more likely to fold. I like your all-in, even though part of me wants to smooth-call it and wait for that bastard to mini-raise again. Then your all-in would look extra-bluffy and you might get a call from something stupid like an overpair or something. Hehe. Your play is a better one I think, even if it's a little less fun. Good job.

I like the play. Just like you said, you don't want someone chasing with a single higher club, the only problem I can see with the play is when they do anyway. Lets say for example, that everything played exactly the same except CO calls the all-in and shows you KK with the K of clubs, a club hits the river, and it's all over. Well, you might say, hey the guy had like a 15% chance of hitting that club, he should have never called, which may well be true, but it doesn't really change the fact that you are out of the tournament. I know you're an accomplished cash game player and this is probabally one of the biggest lapses between cash game players and tournament players is that tournament players play survival over percentages whereas cash game players play percentages over stack preservation. But still, given the situation, I don't have a problem with the way you played it,because the pot had grown large enough that any serious bet that would easily force out a draw would also essentially commit you to the pot. I'm just saying that there may be alternative ways to play this situation.

JJSCOTT

Even a survivalist SNGer like myself would not mind for KK to call in this situation to 7 outs if I go all in. Those extra chips that I collect boost my chances of future survival more than enough to compensate for the 15% chance of losing.

I agree Nash, my only point was to point out some of the situations that can change from a clear push in a cash game to something less than that in a tournament. Overall though, yeah, I'd have done the same.

Nash... I usually play either $50 or $30SNGs, depending on what's open... At those stakes, I can pull off one of the best plays I have... eg.. I've got 4 to a flush on the flop, I bet, villian calls... Turn completes my flush, if I check, like 90% of villians will throw out a nice-sized bet, even if they don't have the flush... I don't know why they think this is such a good blufftime... But they ALWAYS do...

JJ... I understand your point... here was my thinking...

I've got 2 clubs, there's 3 on the board... 13-5=8 more clubs in the deck... Let's put Villian on [Kc] x ... that means there's 7 in the deck w/ 8 cards exposed (counting HIS other card as a non-club... If he has a club, I'd fucked anyways...)... out of the 44 remaining cards, there's 7 spades... Oh... I'm dumb... that's where ya got your 15% from... That's what I get for talking before I use my calculator...

Anyway, I'm MORE than willing to take my chance as a 85% to 15% favorite... Plus, by pushing now, I think there's a halfway decent chance of getting someone w/ the made nut straight or something to call... If I smoothcall and ANOTHER club falls, except for the fact that now I'm screwed to a higher club, but if they DONT have the flush, NOBODY is giving me any action....
