When to Call while Chasing the Flush or Straight?

Postby WildBillHickok » Tue Nov 30, 2004 2:15 pm

When in a tournament is it proper to call an all in when chasing the straight and/or flush? When you have 2 overs to the board AND flush AND strt draw? When you have top pair AND the strt AND flush draw? Only if it's the nut strt and draw? ... Supposing if you call the all in and miss, you're out...
Course I know it's better to be the first all in WITH these...

I encountered this last night, I had nut strt and nut flush draw against the other guy's all in...we were on the bubble...it took a LONG time to get down to 2 of us...most hands I'd ever seen in a 10 person SNG...about 190 hands...I DID lay it down and didn't chase the draw...somehow, luckily I came in 1st anyway.

Thanks for any advice...

You made the right playl Seeing that you won the SNG.

The only hand you can win a SNG with is the last hand. All the ones before that decide if your going to see a last hand or not.

That said I will chase with your hand if I have the all in well covered or I am very short stacked. Your looking a 10 to 13 outs with 41 cards left in the deck. 1 in 4 chance of hitting your hand. At the turn it's a race. On the river your a huge dog.

Three handed I am calling even if i am covered because now I am trying to win not just make it to the money.

I play a SNG in stages. Early stage is to avoid all ins while building my stack. Middle stage is to make it to the money. Final stage win it all.

I know some players say they play to win or nothing. When I play SNG's it's mainly $50 and I'll take 100% return on my money anyday.

If I ain't sinkin', well I must be swimin' If I ain't dead, I must be livin' Livin' is the thing, that scares me the most And if I ain't sleepin', well I better be fishin' If I ain't anchored I will be driftin' But all and all, I'm doing pretty good, since I hit my third coast!
