Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.50/$1
7 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $288.23
UTG+1: $100
MP1: $109.60
Hero: $100
Button: $295.15
SB: $84
BB: $25

Pre-flop: (7 players) Hero is CO with [Jd] [6d] [5s] [Jc]
UTG calls $1, UTG+1 calls $1, MP1 calls $1, Hero calls $1, Button calls $1, SB folds, BB checks.

Flop: [As] [Ac] [Js] ($6.5, 6 players)
BB bets $1, UTG raises to $9.2, 2 folds, Hero ???

I just got to the table so no reads on the players. I hate this situation as he could just be raising because the bb is so weak.

Newbie input:

How about just calling? Since your call will look super scary would be bet without a bigger full on the turn? If he checks you bet (he's got an Ace) and if he bets you fold (he's got a bigger boat or quads).

Yeah, any trips have outs here against your hand, although they need the K or Q against AJ.

I still don't mind the flat call, though, despite the fact that you're presumably ahead (AJ is possible, though, in Omaha). Any read?

If a K or Q hits, I might think about laying this down, but my main reason for the flat call is pot-size management. I don't want to lose my stack against AJ, and I doubt AK or AQ is going anywhere anyway. I'd also like to see what BB is going to do, although I'm guess he probably folds it.

If he checked it to me on the turn, I don't think I'd even bet it (not sure about that one). But if the turn went check-check, I'd definitely bet the river.

Maybe this line is a little too weak-tight, but I agree with your title regarding the underfull. I'd like to see a middle-sized pot here (which I think you'll win more often than you lose, but by no means always) rather than play it for a full stack.

Ais, don't forget the point that i make that a flat call leaves it open for the short stack to reraise to reopen the raising for the raiser.

Yeah, that's one thing I want to find out with the flat call. Not sure exactly how I'm going to respond to various scenarios here, though....

Anyhow, that mini-bet looks very weird to me. I think it's probably a weaker A (or, who knows... maybe even flush draw), but no telling. I don't think UTG has AA, as he would surely just flat call with that hand. But I do think he has at minimum AK in light of his raise.

I doubt I can lay this down, but I'd at least prefer to have them do the betting... and there might even be scenarios where I could lay it down. While AJ is unlikely, that hand has you drawing dead... :(

My flat call is pretty much a "wait and see" call to enable me to better put them on a hand.

Also, if you flat call and short-stack pushes, UTG is certainly going to know that he's up against a lot of strength here. I think this is a tough hand to play, though, and I'm really not at all sure how I'd proceed after that.

Just for the record: Having built back up enough at the $100 to return to the $200, I just lost about $100 on almost exactly this board... I have JJ, he has AJ, board is AAJ... (the full actually hit on the turn, so I was ahead on the flop, but the A was not really an "improvement" here...)

Made it all back with interest after some more work, but I do think the underfull has to be played VERY cautiously against solid opponents.
