Mute, I am pretty much in agreement with you that the fold was not ideal, but with middle set on a draw heavy board you wouldn't be happy to take it down unopposed? I mean, yeah, I like a homerun as much as the next guy (unless my son is pitching), but I just don't see myself as a huge favorite over the likely calling hands. Heads up it's a different story, but 5 handed, well, I don't know. I guess it's safe to say that you have no problem with that regardless of the number of guys that saw the flop?
The part about the 1/2 pot bet that makes me iffy with doing it all the time is it puts more pressure on my post flop play to weed out the steals from the legitimate hands that are ahead of me. This is probably a good thing, since my post flop play won't get any better if I pushed preflop all the time, but I'd go from being the aggressor to the aggressee more often than I'd like to.
I'm probably not making sense, but I've been going from variance-friendly to variance-averse and back lately (intentionally for the most part) and I guess I'm not sure which I prefer. I guess this goes back to my post flop play not being good enough at this point to lag it up comfortably yet. But at least it's getting there.
This discussion probably would be a helluva lot easier if the shorty didn't call and I did not have the results in the back of my head when I think about the hand. Part of me is saying, "Boo ya, great read, good fold!" and part is saying, "So what, you still should have called, pussah!"
