i do think this is interesting.

recently both Xas and Mute have made cases for playing a wide range of hands -- not so much for the value of the hands themselves, but for the fact that they feel confident that they can outplay their opponents after the flop. this basically gives Hero their four cards AND almost everything that doesn't hit villain. i won't even mention metagame value when you show down one of these janky hands to take down a pot.

of course, there's a lot more too it than that, but it's an interesting idea. i think one key point is that villains need to at least be trying to win (as opposed the the low limit rec player who just wants to show down -- like the kitchen table poker games of your childhood), and villains need to be willing to fold (somewhat related to the previous point).

I'll do the best I can, although these stats represent several different styles I've been trying.

The button is actually losing a bit for me, currently 39% VPIP. I really think the losses, however, are from a phase where I tried to buy almost every pot if it was checked around. I definitely overdid that for a while, and I think I just haven't recovered yet from that on my button stats.

CO is my biggest winning position with also VPIP 39%. Right now, I think the VPIP actually looks lower than the number of hands I'm currently playing. I usually end up with over 40% after a session at the moment. But there's a very tight phase mixed in with this data as well (where I was seeing fewer than 20% of all flops).

The other middle positions are winning, with the exception of 4 off the button, which is for some reason a loser. I have to attribute this really to statistical variation, though, since 3 off the button is almost as good as CO, and 5 off the button is also a big winner.

Anyhow, 6 off the button I'm only seeing 24% of flops, and that goes up progressively moving toward the later positions.

SB is also a winner with a VPIP of 35%.

As I say, I'm actually currently seeing more flops than this, probably with the exception of SB and the early positions.

Hmm I'm not sure how to interpret this. Being a winner in a certain position tells you how much money you win on average per hand played, right? So it may very well be that from the blinds you only play pots if you hit the flop hard, in which case you get a lot of money in (for example checkraising with top set). This could mean that you win a lot there because you fold a lot of marginal hands on the flop (as you should, being OOP) but when you play you win a big pot. On the other hand in LP you may play a lot of marginal hands (which increases variance and makes your stats so far less conclusive) which generate a small profit over a large number of hands played.

I guess I'm trying to say that whereas your profit per hand played may look good in the BB, this could be due to the fact that you avoid marginal situations?

Definitely the case. OOP I avoid marginal situations whenever possible--including BB.
