looks like my 2nd post 10 months after the first. The first line should read 3/4 months rather than 43 - apologies for that but I will get better.

You're right. All tourneys are often like the lottery with better odds and a little skill. Ok, so Barry Greenstein said it, but it's still true. As the blinds climb, the players are often at the mercy of the gods. Skill will only get you so far. Bummer, but there it is.

You just put yourself into position to get lucky. Often it's enough, if you play enough well enough.

I have been playing low stakes 5$ SnG's at stars recently and have been doing quite well trying to build my bankroll. I have more 1sts than any other finishes....but I did play one last nite and the blinds got upto 100/200 + 25 ante and there were 8 remaining players!!! I have never seen that.....fortunately though I had a very tight image which I used pretty well to finish in 1st.

I also went over to PP to play a couple of SnG's there also......geeeez they are so difficult now. I didn't finish in the money once out of 10.....whereas I rarely finnish out of the money in the stars ones.....how does that happen?

Previously I started playing turbos, but after reading lots of advice on here...I realised quickly it had become a lottery in there games.

Interesting... I remember visiting this forum and certain person's having a very very low opinion of ICM and push botting in general.

I rarely come here anymore because i only play fr cash games and dabble in Mtts. I've quit single table sngs totally. I think the future is 6max cash games and MTTs.

Not that you "cannot win" without them, but that you will not be much better than a break-even player without them.

ICM = independent chip modeling. It's the math behind the SNG-PT calculations, basically.

Well I'm playing 100 $6.50 Stars Turbos in groups of 6-9 at the moment, and will then move up to play 100x $15+1 ones, without using SNG PT or ICM. You can win $20 by guessing my ROI at the end of the first 100 in another thread.

I guess we'll see but my gut feeling is that even in turbos there is still enough time to play a bit of poker and that my push-botting once the blinds get very high using my exerience and having read up on the SC numbers isn't going to see me hugely behind someone who is 'power-tooled' up...

I think the pro and semi-pro SnG world has probably moved on with SnGPT, Beat Phil and the SC calcs in NLTAP - but at low stakes (say up to $22 tables) I suspect they are still very beatable..
