This hand was played in a B and M casino. 2/5 limit. Table is LOOSE, but fairly passive, not uncommon to have 5 or 6 people seeing a flop. MP is a bad player, but a not a total moron...SB plays anything and everything he feels like... I saw him bust aces with a 5 3o that he called a raise with earlier.

I am in the BB and get A 5o.

MP raises, there are 2 callers and the SB calls as well, so I decde to call to try to hit my 2 pair, and beat MP if he has AK or AQ.

the flop is a beauiful A 5 2. SB checks, I bet, and MP raises. the two limpers fold, and SB calls and I call, planning to check raise the turn.

the turn is another 2. SB checks, and I check, and MP checks, d'oh...

the river is a 7

Sb bets. Huh? I think for a while about raising, but finally decide just to call as SB could literally have any 2 cards. MP raises. Now I am thoroughly confused...SB calls, so I call as well.

Results:

SB has 2,3 for (three twos)
MP has AA (full house), and takes the pot...

Anything I could have done differently? I think I was getting pretty good odds to call the PF raise, and after that was in trouble.

thanks,

Brett

The only thing u couldve done diff was fold preflop or lose more than u did.

I wouldve lost more cause im cappin that flop and firing out on the turn. After that it wouldve just got ugly.
I do not think, therefore I am not.

That's pretty much why I just tend to avoid A -rag. Even if you are discplined enough to fold if you just hit the A and get action, and only play when you hit two-pair or better, I just don't know if you can justify calling a raise with it. Because you won't hit most of the time, and sometimes when you do you will lose. And it's those time that you hit and lose that will cost you your ass. And you might not always make that back when you hit and win because if you hit and he doesn't have AK but instead JJ, he may not pay you off. At very, very best I think it's a margainal call. After you called though, I really don't see a way to avoid losing what you did, becuase no real scare cards hit that would suggest you are behind. Just a bad situation that could have been avoided by chucking it preflop.

agree with striker. I fold preflop but if I do play, I'm losing much more on this hand.

Thanks for the insight guys...so is the general consensus that you would fold it preflop?

If so are there any amount of callers or odds that you would call it with preflop?

thanks,

Brett

slaz: first off I would say, don't worry about what the small blind did w/5 3o. There are 2 other people in this hand and it sounds like the SB is a loosing player. You don't want to be like him.

Second: Yes you need to fold this hand every time, If you were suited I would say maybe call: you are getting 9:1 and if you don't flop a flush draw or 2 pair after the flop let it go. There are far too many hands out there that are dominating yours pre-flop. You can't play A 5o profitably from up front in the long run, it's just not gonna work.

Since you did call with your hand I would say this-

Flop:I would say check call because you know MP is gonna bet.

Turn:Check raise, a check raise is not going to work very well since led out on the flop unless MP is ultra aggresive.

River: I am raising that bet and I would loose alot and flat calling a re-raise but if MP raises and SB re-raise you have to fold. You are beat. The small blind got what he deserved, and you were unfortunate to run into a better hand. It happens but if you think you have the best hand you need to get your money in when you think you have the best hand. I know you led out on the flop but like I said you should smooth call that and unless the turn is really scary, check raise the turn and raise the river.

Thats what I think anyways.

I would only call that raise if its suited or if its offsuit, I'm looking for at least one more caller than you got, preferably 2. I absolutely hate weak aces more than anything else.
