Calling down with K-high and A-high on river...

Like I said, I've played against this player before probably in several thousand hands. and this is the first time in months I've called with king high. I can't explain exactly why I didn't think he had it, I just didn't.

As far as not raising, well that's easy, if he has nothing I want him to keep pounding away at the small pot.

In this particular hand with him betting the turn there is 3 big bets + his bet, I make more if I call and let him possibly draw to 3-6 outs, but also firing on the river hopelessly with a loser if he doesn't improve.


If I just call and let him bet at the river with nothing, I'm risking 5 bets (If I raise the turn, he folds, I win 4 there, but I also include the 1 more bet I pay out on the river when he does improve by me allowing him to draw) to win 1 bet more. So that's 5:1 there, and even if he has 2 live cards (6 outs out of 44), that's 7.33:1. Making the turn call the obvious right move, assuming he will fire at the river at least 65% of the time with an unimproved hand worse than K high (And I think he will here)

In this case, he didn't even have 6, he had 3. 44:3 which is 11.3:1 chance of letting him draw out vs risking 5 bets to win 1 more. In this case, he only had to fire at the river ~40% of the time to make calling the turn correct if I think he really has nothing but 2 random cards.

Villain was slightly LAGgy. Since he raised pre-flop and didn't cap, I put him on random big cards - just like me! Except mine were AK - the best unpaired hand.

Villain was moderately loose and aggressive, nothing outrageous though. The board was very well coordinated and he probably put me on two big cards, so I decided to call down UI unless there was four to a straight out there.
