Happy medium on table VP$IP, PFR?

That's how things have been lately. I prefer tables where 25-35% of players see flop. This translates into VP$IPs between about 24-30%. It's a matter of personal preference and it's a matter of what plays into your style.

Loose players drive me nuts because they're tougher for me to read. I'd rather play a tighter table where I can hone a read in on a player.

It's all preference.

What Tib said. I prefer looser tables myself. Bigger pots and people playing their marginal hands and marginal draws too far. Anything tighter than 30% is too tight for me (I play 6-max now, so 30% is pretty tight there.)
