Just diggin in old threads. This is a great one in need of a return to the top or the BR management forum. Great post

I started with $50 and started off playing NL25, i found this forum BEFORE even making my first real deposit (because i'd played with play money for months before i actually deposited) and played 30,000 hands at NL25 with a fairly decent winrate, and i've never looked back since.

Even though that was a few months ago, i foolishly took money out to buy several things. If I kept that money in my roll and kept trying to move up when i had the right roll i might be at NL200 by now, but i'm not, i'm still straggling NL50 and NL100.

I think 3 key things to get from this thread is to a) play within your bankroll, b) only move up when you're winning consitantly at the level below and c) only take money out of your roll if you absoloutely have to.

Back when Pacific gave away $10 to anyone who played a freeroll, I played a $2.50 SNG, lost it, played a $5 10 player SNG and won it. From that I played a lot of 5 player $2.50 SNGs, got it up to about $160.

I then started to play 100NL on another site and somewhat lapsed into going pro (my contract ended at work and at that point I was making more in a week at poker than a month at work) But anyway, I totally forgot about the Pacific account. Then remembered it, played $10NL for a week, made $800 (Pacific was a lot juicier then) and then played some limit poker and then some NL.

Basicially from a $10 gift I've managed to earn at a guess $5000, my point being that good money can be made from as little as $10, nobody deserves to win just because they think they're good. Poker's all about playing opponents who are weaker than ourselves, and in time money will be won.

Ya know, my main bankroll is my working capital but I always keep about $300 in Pacific and always will. In a way I'm more proud of the money I've made from nothing there than my main BR that I live off which I built up from depositing a few times, losing it and depositing again.

Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Somewhere in the world someone is training when you are not. When you race him, he will win.

This was a very good read. I can't beleive I haven't read it yet since I found this forum.

I have spent the past 50 hours playing the .01/.02 NL game on stars. Im just trying to learn the basics and its working out very well so far. (14.44 PTBB/100)

I often wondered if any of the other posters had to take so long getting the basics down at the lower games. It seems as if everyone deposits $50 and after 20 mins they move up to $2000NL on party. :P

After reading this I feel good about taking my time, having fun, all while laying a solid foundation for my game.

don't fret guys, i'm on the slow and steady climb like you are from the basement levels. i started with about $100 at the 1c/2c tables on stars, and almost +$700 later, i'm getting to the point of feeling that i'm ready for 10c/25c.

it's slow going, and it can be a major blow to the ego to think you're making a sub-minimal wage hourly, but just stop for a second and think about the money you're not losing like you would playing over your head and outside your bankroll.

good luck to everyone on your goals! :D
Aw shit, here comes PacMan.
