low limit expected BB rate per 100 hands

Postby m9man » Mon Jan 31, 2005 5:39 pm

Greetings all, I just found this website - and it is full of great information for me - the online newbie. I strictly play the low limits TH tables, one table at a time - just as a hobby and to gain experience.

I know this site is mainly geared toward NL play [which I like better too, but must build ye old bankroll]... but could someone let me know what a good BB per100 hands rate is at the low limit tables? I know I need at lot of hands to even out the variability.

Thanks in advance to any replies,

thanks BK - I have read alot on the subject and do use PT - it is an amazing tool.

only 2,000 hands so far - so too early to draw any conclusions. i am right around 3BB/100, but i know i have made MANY mistakes. and still have much to learn.

the ability to scout for weak players & tables online makes me feel like a predator... which is ok for me - as i have no qualms about winning.

the PT gametime feature helps quantify what i would normally observe and mentally catalog in a B&M game. powerful tool.

If you can stay around 3BB ( or even 2BB) / 100 hands while you play play play and gain experience, then you are way ahead of the crowd.

You need to play 10000s of hands to get used to seeing every possible combinations of hands and see how people play their hands in different ways.

Here's a thought:

If you are winning 2BB/Hr, then your swings will be less than someone who is winning 4BB/hr, right?

This doesn't answer your question -- it's just a suggestion.

If your goal is to play no-limit, why play limit? Once you get the bankroll for no-limit and the level you think you should play at, you may find that all your hours of limit have ruined your no-limit game! Switching between the two can be difficult.

You can build a bankroll playing no-limit -- just go to the micro-stakes tables. The UB $2 tables are a great place to start playing. Other sites may have micro-stakes NL too, not sure....

Yeah I started on Pokerstars playing the .01/.02 NL tables. Good learning place and a lot of fun.

I started by playing limit (small stakes of course). I had no idea what was a really strong hand so there was no way I could play NL back then.

After 10000s of hands I knew what hand was a lock and I would be able to pour money into the pot with. It was only then that I felt comfortable playing NL.

Of course there was a million other factors that made me switch also.

That is a very good point. I should be playing low NL tables... in fact I plan on starting an account on paradise or UB to play at $2 NL tables. i have watched some of the play at that level.

I did read the neat calculation with bankroll, hourly rate, risk of ruin and standard deviation - however obviously i don't have any stats yet. what amount should i deposit there to absorb variability if i intend on starting the $2 NL tables? I think the blinds or 10 and 20 cents.

I have played a smattering of NL tournaments and small NL cash games live and in person [not enough to be statistically significant], not online yet though...

After 7500ish hands of NL .05-.10 @ UB i have a win rate of 16.46 BB / 100. I'v seen several peeps post simular results @ micro/low limit tables.
