I've been playing the 2/4 Limit game at Hollywood much like Jennifer Harmon recommends in SSII. Once I start realizing that there were almost always 3 or
4 or sometimes more people seeing the flop and that my raises were not
accomplishing what I wanted them to most of the time, I had to slow down a
bit.
Now this week I have bought Small Stakes Hold'Em by Miller/Sklansky/Malmuth.
Two things strike me about this right away. The recommend what they call
tighter play in most situations, however, I find their opening requirements to
be much looser than SSII. Secondly, their tight games seem to be about right
for what I am playing, but it seems my games are just slightly even tighter
at times and sometimes more aggressive. They don't recommend raising with
hands like 99,88 or the like on the button vs. one raiser, but I still think it is the
right play.
For anyone who has read both books is either better for the 2/4 Limit game
which sees about 3 to a flop sometimes 4 or 5, and is raised preflop about
50% of the time? Is there a happy medium between the 2 books? Please
keep in mind that I have only read up to and including the preflop section
in SSHE and PT has me rated as an Ultra Aggressor and a slightly unprofitable
player since the beginning of July.
