Only ATE, (that I saw) dealt the game, in a manner that NEVER had anyone not discard!!!!
God, I'm such a GENIUS at dealing poker.
Anyway, "lazy" Pineapple, (AKA "Tahoe") became popular in California/Nevada, out of the ASHES of people's failure to discard.
You can't use three to make a hand, but you don't have to discard. Unlike omaha, you can use one, or none.
Also, there is "super 3" pineapple, where you CAN use all three. Althought this game has a LOT of skill, the occurances of monster hands, made using all three hole cards, doe'snt happen often enough to totally destroy the LIVE ONES.
A game that was very popular, in the ALASKA games was "shuck two or none"
It's a high-low six card stud game, with a twist. First of all, you start with FOUR cards, and select the three you want to play. You throw a card, and pick what you want as your upcard. For some reason, unlike crazy pineapple, people didn't forget to discard.
Anyway, after six cards and the betting round, each player, IN SEQUENCE verbally declares if they're "shucking" That is: throwing TWO cards away.
thus, you cannot have, say a 2 3 4 5 7, and have a chance at a wheel. You MUST throw away two.
The skill level in this game, is VERY high, as is the gambling level. ATE has seen people call pot-size bets, to shuck two to an A 2 3 K !!!!
The "shucking" kinda has the same appeal, as the flop in hold em.
