The backer issue, is rather complicated. At issue here, is the extent to which you play.
If you are broke, and a friend gives you 100 to play in a 3-6 game, 'cause the jackpot is 100K, and it's a one time deal, the traditional split is 50-50.
The backer is not risking that much money, and it's really intended only as a means to help out someone who's down.
For larger games, there is only ONE fair way to do it. But, usually this is not practical.
It can only work, if the player is good, the backer well-funded, and they both trust each other.
The only fair and practical way is this: fifty fifty, BUT THE PLAYER MUST MAKE UP LOSSES, AND NOT GET PAID AGAIN UNTIL HE (SHE) IS BACK IN THE PROFIT COLUMN
Expenses, such as airfare, hotel, etc. are taken off the top, before calculating the split.
for a one time deal, in a huge game, 12-15% is a fair split for the player.
This never works though, becaue if the player has a big win, resentment is SURE to follow.
But, someone who KNOWS poker, realizes that the backer is taking all the risk.
Hell, I'd take that deal. If someone wanted to put me in the 1000-2000 dealers choice game, that Daniel Negraneau plays in, I'd be happy with 12 percent.
For a long-term thing, the fiftyh fiftyh losses made back, is the only way.
