I think that I get more bad beats than the 17% or so that you should get. But, I can not prove it. 17% beacuse almost any hand will lose about 17% of the time.

In a live game tonight I got one true bad beat. I flopped a set of 7's and he got a runner runner flush. His only out. After the flop he had 4% chance to win. Now that drives me crazy.

But, you have to love a player that will go all in with only a 4% chance to win.

Back to the point of the thread.

I think that I overplay KQs - cards like KQ QJ and KJ are trap hands and I have started to be more careful with them after reviewing my PT and reading your article.

Thanks again.

Your tables and methods of play are different to mine- that is the great thing about PT you can tailor your starting hands to the exact metagame you are playing in as your database reflects your own requirments.

One indicator of bad post flop play is noticing hands that should be core winners - say like AQs or KQ which are in fact losing hands for you - this indicates a tendency to overplay them post-flop...

Getting stacked by bad beats is unavoidable and not a problem if you are adequately bankrolled and are able to keep calm - just remember that, unless you get your money in with the best of it, you can't suffer a bad beat - so their very existence is a sign that you are outplaying your opponents.

I count more hands as junk than you do in your article - I count 134 hands as junk.

6 % where I put in money not in a blind - add in the blinds where I put money in and it goes up to 10% ($487)

I have been winning since 11/03/05 - before that I was losing. This is 11,114 hands.

Core hands +$815 or $5.60 ptbb/100 hands.

Starting 11/03/05 -

I changed to play only core hands starting 11/03/2005 and so far $5.14ptbb/100 - a little low now since I just took a very bad beat with QQQ.

Good article.

poker-tracker-part-5ia-page67.html

BTW - I started my own analysis on 11/2/05 before I read this article that is why my hand groups are different. I don't count A9s-A7s as core - they are junk to me. I lose with these hands. I do not play A9-A2 suited or off suit unless free from the BB since 11/03.

This article is great for preflop starting hand selection which is the most important aspect I think.

But, then it comes to post flop play. This is a big area and I am not sure how PT can help execpt as a tool to review you play, which I do. Getting stacked a few time either by bad play or bad beats can really hurt your bankroll in No limit.

3156 hands played from outside the blinds.
1/2 Limit played at various sites.

Core: $437.30
Marginal: $122.44
Junk: -$118.00

Junk Hand Leak : 27% YIKES!!!!!!!

Now to just put a plug in it!!!!

Excession, I haven't been all the way through the articles yet, but is there a way to apply this to the Blinds? Answer may be obvious, but it's late, I'm exhausted and I can't figure it for myself.
Thanks for the great resource you've provided everyone here.

Anyway, late contribution. These stats are from FL $1/2 and $2/4. Around 6000 hands, full table.

Core hands: 1,167
Marginal: 67
Junk: -6.50

Total junk leak: 0.05 %

I'm not quite sure about some hands though. I play very tightly, a LOT tighter than the original poster. For example, I haven't voluntarily played JTo once in 6000 hands. Too tight perhaps. And hands like 65s are marginal winners for me and I've seen the flop with it ~35% of the time. Marginal or junk? It's on my marginal list right now, as is large losers for me like 88 and 77 (I openlimp with 88 in EP, and mostly 77 also, always limp is there is 1+ limper before me). 55 and down go on junk. My VP$IP with marginal hands is 42%, with junk 0.91%. I think it's safe to say playing junk hands isn't a loser for me. I'd be interested to see an analysis of blind hands, I think a big loser for me is playing marginal hands against raises in the blinds.
