Problem is this: if EP has 98 or a lower set then he should check if he thinks I have a busted draw, in order to let me stab at it again. If he has a lower set, then he should probably check or bet small, since now it's a WA/WB situation. Same for if he had something like 9TJQ, when his hand has some showdown value. However, if he puts me on a made hand (not unlikely, given the turn betting), he should probably lead with 98.
If he has a busted draw himself then it seems logical that he'd stab the river, but the confusing thing is that the 9 seems far from a good scarecard, since it is extremely likely to have helped my hand.
