On the turn, betting is OK if he's one of those who'll call a small flop bet then wilt under pressure. But I like betting a board pair more so that a flush card, because if he's holding a set he might look you up anyhow on that turn, since he did on the flop with fewer outs... In fact there's not a lot of hands I see him dropping there, unless he genuinely is the sort to lay down after making a loose flop call with 2 pair or something. Good job it worked out anyhow.

Note that if you check-call the flop, you can actually bluff that turn and perhaps make him lay down an identical straight. One way to go, anyhow.

Hand 2:

Out of position I think it's very close. In position I call a single pot bet with this hand, you have 5 outs that are almost certainly good and perhaps the flush'll win it too, plus backdoor flush draw should be 1-1.5 outs. If he's the sort to bet with very limited holdings you could even raise this hand to try to force him out early if there are no intermediate callers. If he's betting 2 pair he might fold, and even if he calls you're pretty much within coin-toss territory anyhow.... Only hand that has you screwed is a set, and against that you've still got ample odds to call. If he has an unlikely AAxx with the nut flush draw then you're in trouble of course. Against one opponent I call or raise usually, even out of position, BUT there is absolutely nothing wrong with dropping the hand because he'll always be last to act and, let's be honest, you don't have an awful lot at the moment and you'll have to bet a spade which could be a minefield in itself out of position.

Bet out that turn? If not, I basically am giving up on the hand if the guy is smart enough to bet.

Assuming that its folded to me after the first bet and there is no raise, what do you do? i know that I definitely shouldn't be calling the raise because the first better could reraise. I'm just wondering how much I should chase this if at all. I know I'm not drawing for the nuts but I could easily have the best hand at the moment and definitely had it on the turn.
