P.S. I hardly ever lose to all-in abusers, so in that respect I'm not too unlucky! I still seem to run into the most absurd beats at times though but perhaps I've been outrageously lucky in other areas, I don't know. I do live in one of the most affluent countries in the world, and I'm physically fit, employed, comfortable and relatively speaking financially quite rich, so.....
At the sake of losing some kudos, I have used disconnect abuse several times, quite intentionally, in my poker career. I did so a few times last year when they introduced it on Crypto for the NL holdem tables and literally EVERYONE was using it. It almost seemed to be putting yourself at a disadvantage if you DIDN'T disconnect on a draw to a big bet, although some hardy souls still played by the spirit of the game. In a way, I blame the sites that won't allow a sensible policy for disconnecting players and thus use a hopeless fudge like allowing DC protects, rather than the players themselves that do it. However, I consider it very bad form to use it, and it does piss me off (nowadays I report people for doing it every time I see it), and personally I wouldn't ever dream of doing it now at any site. Still, doesn't change the fact that some form of disconnect protection is NECESSARY for players like me who sometimes seem to have a flaky connection! Stars have the best approach, IMO, that of allowing a large amount of time IF it's clear that the player in question has lost his/her connection. Anyhow, this is turning into a lengthy rant - the upshot is that I disagree with anyone abusing disconnect protect, and think they actually COST those of us who play fairly good money by preventing most sites allowing disconnects (for instance, at Crypto, if you time out now your hand is folded - this has cost me upwards of $1k over the last 12 months I believe), BUT that sites have to come up with a sensible alternative, and as far as I can see I haven't seen the perfect answer yet.Statistics: Posted by Felonius_Monk — Tue Jul 12, 2005 4:35 pm
