I had 99, and a younger player who had raised once while I had been sitting raised UTG+ 1. I called, looking for my set because from what this kid had showed down and his play up to date, I couldn't put him on anything but a huge pocket pair(he had limped in with a couple of big Ace-king, ace-queen hands). Player next to me calls, all others fold.
Flop is KK9. Sweet, I hit my FH. And the kid checks after a few seconds. I don't know why, but warning bells went off in my head! I think I could actually feel the strength of his hand, but I had a FH and the guy next to me was looking to be, so I checked as well. Guy next to me bets, kid calls, and I call. Turn is a Q. UGH. I don't know what I beat now considering I put him on just a few hands really. Kid checks, but I finally bet. Guy next to me calls, and the kid calls. River is an 8. Kid checks again. At this point, I almost feel I have to bet because of the FH, and I do. Guy calls, kid then CR's. Damn. I just call here which is funny, and the other guy folds. He flips over his quads, and I show my hand(guess I was looking for sympathy). Kid then does the old hit and run, and takes off with his winnings.
I asked the other guy what he was betting on that flop...but I was pretty happy that I didn't lose alot more money on this hand. I would say 99.5% of the time I would be raising like a maniac on every street in this situation, but after what I put the kid on(really, just something that comes second nature now), I felt the turn card must of hit him if the flop didn't. Just a rare situation where I felt that slowing down with a FH was good in a limit game...trying to save those big bets I earn from the others.Statistics: Posted by Danhdan — Wed Mar 29, 2006 4:43 am
