Your flop raise is also fine. You need to define where you are at and protect your overpair. Flops like this are extremely dangerous for overpairs however. Middle pocket pairs could mean sets, the coordinated board means that straight draws and flush draws will be there if they haven't been made already. When your raise is called and a few of the draws get there on the turn you are right to slow down here.
The real trouble with the hand is your opponents bet on the river. A good player knows this bet should only be called unless that hand is beaten, so this could mean he has the nuts and wants it to look like he's a nut. Or he knows you have a decent hand but maybe not one you'll be able to call that bet with (he had a draw but not one that got there).
