My premise is: You make money by exploiting others mistake
So I need to find the common mistakes and figure out the optimal way to exploit them. Here's my intitial conclusions.
Mistakes made by microstake players
Mistake - Plays too loose preflop
Exploit - Raise good hands to force them to pay to draw, loosen your own standards for playing
Mistake - Goes too far with weak or vulnerable hands
Exploit - Play more hands, valuebet good hands, call with good draws
Mistake - Chases draws
Exploit - Valubet made hands, fold if the draw gets there
Mistake - Calling a lot thinking people bluff
Exploit - Don't bluff
Mistake - Bluffs too much
Exploit - Call down with more marginal hands like TPGK
Mistake - Slowplays too much
Exploit - Don't bet your draws, fold to check/raises
Basically it boils down to:
Play loose preflop and ABC post flop. I've started testing this and more specifically my strategy is:
Preflop:
EP: Any pair, ATs+, AQ+
MP: AT, Axs, SC's, Two broadway
LP: One gappers
Raising:
AA-TT and AK/AQ
Calling raises:
PP and AK, SC's if there are multiple callers.
Hands that I don't play are Kxs and Ax. I was considering Kxs but decided against it.
Post flop (simplified):
Bet pot or more with TPTK or better made hands
Overbet any multiway pot with a made hand if there is a flush draw or Ace out
Call with OESD's and NFD's unless it's an overbet, since people will pay you off
Never slowplay
Only bluff if the pot is 3-way or HU and it is checked to you
Check/raise all-in with sets if there's a flush draw out (they will think you have the flush draw OR they will call if THEY have it, good either way)
Do NOT check/raise all-in with OESD+Flush draws for the same reason.
I played 400 hands today and it went so-so. Profit of 13.76ptbb/100 but I horribly misplayed two hands. One I limp/called a miniraise from a shorty who miniraised 20% of his hands with QTs and CR:ed allin on a T55 flop, he had KK. The other I limp/re-raised the same guy with AQo but got a third caller, Flop was Jxx and I made a CB and folded to the other guys raise.
Some things I am considering:
Limp/raise all-in with AA-QQ. I was considering doing it with AK but since you'll have very low fold equity against medium PP's who love to call, I'm not sure it is a good idea. Maybe AKs? However, I have seen peopel call with AJ and simmilar so...
Adding Kxs. People will go bust every time with a lower flush and will pay off with two-pars etc, but I will go bust against all the Axs hands. On the fence here.
SC's go down a bit in value since you'll have no fold equity when you flop a monster draw and will be called by draws that dominate you.
Currently my vpip is way too low at only 26.5%. It really seems very low considering my preflop standards, maybe I've just been on a semi-cold streak or maybe it was raised preflop too much. I don't know. Should I add more hands?
This is mainly a pet project. I got bored with Hold'em a while ago and I'm mainly playing PLO and LO8 now but figured this could be fun and/or interesting. It would be cool to get some feedback. Statistics: Posted by Stoneburg — Thu Jun 22, 2006 12:52 pm
