Thats a good statement to have taped to your monitor because its true 98% of the time.
However, if you have a read, you can disregard that advice.

Pot $40. Flop J52. SB checks, I bet $30, my fav villain calls
Pot $100. Turn K. I check and villain bets $40. I check raise to $150 villain calls.
Pot $400. River 3 and it completes a backdoor flush. I bet $200 and he min raises to $400. I call and he has 43
