Say someone open pushes $100 and you call with AKs, he has 22 and you have 50% equity. So you'll break even. If you have 74% equity, you will make a $48 profit. If you have 82% equity you will make $64. That's a 33% increase in profit. So in this case, 8 percantage units in equity will generate 33% more profit.
Of course the increase is usually not quite that big since the pot odds are usually better. Say he pushes $100 into a $120 on the turn and you call with 74% equity, you will make ~130. If you had 82% you'd make ~160. Not as big of an increase, but still more than 20% more profit. Of course with 100% equity you'd make $220.
