I've seen guys use odd bets. They are trying to be clever. They have probably spent a lot of time working out what bet size would appear to put the most chips stacked out in front of them, so the size of the bet appears large and intimidating. While it might have a tactical advantage over some noobs, it's pretty much a silly thing to veterans.
