If you don't believe the average player is horrible - think about why you're a long-term winner at poker. To be a long-term winner in SNGs, you have to beat more than 70% of the table on average.

I was not criticizing your play, I was just suggesting an alternate strategy.
You and I play a very different type of game. The comparison reminds me of the old story about the two bulls.
A young bull and an old bull were lying under a tree at the top of the hill just chewing their cud and enjoying a warm spring day. It wasn't long before they watched as the farmer unloaded a new herd of heifers into the field at the bottom of the hill. The young bull immediatley jumped up and said, "Come on, lets run down there and fuck one of those heifers. The old bull looked up at him and slowly said, "How about we walk down and fuck them all."

Why do you assume he is a donk? That betting pattern - raising you exactly 3X your bet and then pushing to your reraise is exactly what we are trying to teach people here. That suggests to me that he has at least a clue as to what he is doing.
I can't fault you for calling his push but I would suggest that you have every reason to believe you are behind here. It is way too early to be chasing and I think that is what you would be doing. Lay it down. If he IS a donk you have plenty of time to get those chips back and he will give you the opportunity.
Maybe that is weak but you can't win from the rail and you can easily win with the 1000 chips you have left.
