Sure the guy *might* be raising you with crap, but he also might have AK. You have 0 read on this guy, so give him the benefit of the doubt. If he is a crappy player, you will know soon enough. AQ is just that that good a hand, especially early on.

On the flop, you're right to notice that the bet size was on the small-ish side. I'd still be thinking mid-pairs and MAYBE a queen. He could also have a weak K at this point I guess, but with a rainbow flop, whether it's suited or not is currently meaningless and your flop raise should give him cause for concern. When he just calls you on the flop rather than re-raise, I more often than not will take that as a sign of weakness (at the $10 level) since most players with a really good hand at this level will try and get all your chips in one fell swoop rather than suck you in to doing the betting.

Once he checks the turn, I have to agree with the earlier poster, you need to put in another reasonable bet and maybe even push all-in (this latter approach is probably better since it applies the maximum pressure and doesn't give your opponent any option other than fold or call prior to seeing the river card which may or may not help him). I'm guessing that more often than not, you're in better shape with MPTK in this spot.

Of course, like I said, on a higher limit table, that intial $125 means something entirely different. On a $10+1, I put myself in a great spot if I've read this correctly and if not, well then, I'm slightly unlucky and I go find another $10 to play. In a lot of cases, I'd rather try and build a stack early than wait until later when the blinds knock me out in 4th or 5th.

My point is... if you are a good player, and you think this guy made this outrageous raise with a crap hand... wait for the nuts and take all his money. He is clearly an agressive player. He wants to get all his money in the pot early in this tourney. We have all seen these players. They either bust or double up in the first few hands. Do they ever win the thing? Rarely. Why tangle with this guy with a 2nd tier hand? It is an amateur play.

I will leave you with Doyle Brunson words of wisdom... Don't go broke with a Q in your hand.

Albeit, I wouldn't recommend doing this all the time. I would much rather see a flop here. But never under-estimate the power of "taking the lead" in a hand. That's the reason you raise every hand from the button in a heads up match (With lower blinds). That momentum can turn rags into the winner. See a flop, you hand plays well there.

you have to put this guy on something big, AK, AQ, AJ, KQ or big PP.......Your hope is that he is holding AJ.....when you reraised and he smooth called i;d be worried that he was letting out enough rope for you to hang yourself (which explains the twin checks)

or he had a high PP 1010, JJ and took his shot at the pot, you came back, he should fold there if he's any good.....

Him going all in, he probably has it, figured he may get you to leap with all-in bet that smells of a steal.....if he had a strong king he'd value bet the river looking to squeeze something more out of you....

I think you bet the turn after his check, a value bet, something small that looks like you want a call.... if he's holding anything but a strong king, it will be a tough call considering you;ve smooth called a huge preflop bet, and repped the strong K/2pr with the reraise.......you look like you are hanging a trap with the value bet....it would smell.....

if he calls the value bet or comes over, you shut down, but you have to follow that reraise with the check because you could have him scared......

I think you shut down too early with the obvious steal attempt.......another 250-400 on the turn could have taken down that pot, or left no doubt....
