The key factor here is that you'd eliminate a player without putting yourself in danger. If you lose this hand you still have 30BBs to work with. As these SNG's get down to a few players the blind always get high and I think from a metagame POV you want this guy to be folding to you instead of pushing at you with the idea that you'll give up some hands in order to stay at a healthy stack size.
I imagine you lost the hand he had something like JJ or QQ so you are second guessing the call but with less than 10xBB this guy has a huge range and you simply can't be folding here without giving up way to much of the long run. Ask yourself if you'd call with AQ here? I bet you wouldn't think twice about it...
