Flopped set on a monotone board ($2/$4 6-max)

Haven't played with villian too much, but I was pretty sure he would have capped pre-flop with Aces, so the only thing I'm behind on the flop is a flopped flush.

Anybody play this one differently? I can't check behind on the turn because he could easily have AK with the and a free card could be big trouble.

The river call was a "maybe he's overplaying 2-pair (which I've seen on 4-flush boards before)" crying call.

Ugh, this is one of those hands that starts out borderline ugly and just keeps getting uglier, and uglier......Kinda like when you're starting to sober up after hooking up with some chick at a bar when you're drunk.

The flop is nasty to begin with but we can always hope for improvement with the board pairing. Another potentialy dangerous hand we need to worry about is KJ or KJd. Which KJs would make a lot of sense based on the flop action....although 2 pair can still be in his range also..so in the words of Monty Python..."we're not quite dead yet"

Turn we may be in serious trouble...if he dosen't already have the flush but had KJ we're in trouble. I guess an arguement can be made for checking here because we may need some serious help here anyway and a pairing board is what we're hoping for. This is one of those situations where WE might need the free card. With his flop action I doubt we're pushing him off the hand here and if I thought about the hand as much as I am right now not not being in the heat of the moment checking might not be a bad idea.

River sucks.....there's a straight and flush potential and if he's holding any diamond we're done for. With enough discipline a fold might be in order here but I'm calling.

I don't think there's much you could've done here assuming we lost....only real way to save much is just call the flop 3 bet, take the free card on the turn and cross our fingers on the river.

That said if I was in the middle of the hand I'm probably playing exactly the same, occasionally taking the free card on the turn.

Maybe I am a coward, but I am probably checking the turn. Yes this is a big pot, and the free card may cost us the pot, but heck, he's not folding anyway. I think at this point I am trying to get to showdown as cheaply aspossible. Unless you tell me he is a maniac I think he flopped the nuts.

Of course maybe this is shellshock from having QQ hit his set on the river tonight and crack my aces in a similarly huge pot.
