When I limp it is always with a hand that I don't mind calling a raise with if that happens. If you have a hand that you would not feel good about calling a raise with then it should hit the muck before you stick that other half of a bet in. A couple of limp reraises with quality hands will stop most of them from getting to frisky as well if they are prone to raise your limps but the bottom line is most of the time you should try to keep the pot small preflop with most of the hands you intend to play because you are out of position and it is going to be tough to overcome that usually.
Of course depending on the type of player you are against this advice may not be worth much. Against better defenders fold even more than normal and against guys that play too tightly or poorly post flop just run over them as long as they let you.
