6-Max, KK with A on Uncoordinated Flop

Postby EscapePlan9 » Mon Oct 17, 2005 12:42 pm

Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (6 max, 5 handed)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Kd], [Kh].
Hero raises, 2 folds, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: (6 SB) [8s], [Ad], [6s] (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB folds.

Turn: (4 BB) [9c] (2 players)
SB bets, Hero folds.

Final Pot: 5 BB

Of course he could have two-pair or a straight already, but I thought he'd go for a check-raise in that case. Then again, I cannot tell you how many times I've been donked by someone making two-pair on the turn. I cannot always assume my opponents are rational.

The pot wasn't very large yet, and I had to be right nearly 20% of the time for this call down to be profitable. I'm not sure if I folded the winning hand here. He could have easily donked the turn with an OESD, but I couldn't figure out why he'd stay with a 7 on the flop. Perhaps to gain a draw to a draw?

For comparison... here's where I called down with KK despite the A on the flop. This time it was a well-coordinated flop so the call-down was easier.

Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (6 max, 5 handed)

Preflop: Hero is MP with [Kc], [Kd].
UTG calls, Hero raises, 2 folds, BB calls, UTG calls.

Flop: (6.50 SB) [Ad], [Qs], [3d] (3 players)
BB checks, UTG bets, Hero calls, BB folds.

Turn: (4.25 BB) [3s] (2 players)
UTG bets, Hero calls.

River: (6.25 BB) [9s] (2 players)
UTG bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 8.25 BB

Results in white below:
UTG has Qd Td (two pair, queens and threes).
Hero has Kc Kd (two pair, kings and threes).
Outcome: Hero wins 8.25 BB.

I guess this will be my new sticky thread. I'm still new to 6-max and have trouble playing KK with an A on flops.

Absolute Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (5 handed)

Preflop: Hero is Button with [Kh], [Ks].
UTG calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls, UTG calls.

Flop: (8 SB) [Ah], [2s], [Ts] (4 players)
SB checks, BB bets, UTG folds, Hero calls, SB folds.

Turn: (5 BB) [As] (2 players)
BB bets, Hero calls.

River: (7 BB) [8s] (2 players)
BB bets, Hero raises, BB calls.

Final Pot: 11 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has Kh Ks (flush, ace high).
BB has Tc7d
Outcome: Hero wins 11 BB.

Absolute Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Kh], [Ks].
1 fold, MP raises, 3 folds, Hero 3-bets, MP caps, Hero calls.

Flop: (8.50 SB) [Ah], [5h], [Js] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets, Hero calls.

Turn: (5.25 BB) [9s] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets, Hero calls.

River: (7.25 BB) [Ac] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 9.25 BB

Results in white below:
Hero has Kh Ks (two pair, aces and kings).
MP has 8s 8h (two pair, aces and eights).
Outcome: Hero wins 9.25 BB.

I think I should have donked the river when the 2nd ace appeared. I always am perplexed when someone thinks that they have to cap if they're 3-bet with any hand.

Absolute Poker 1/2 Hold'em (6 handed)

2 folds, CO raises, Hero 3-bets, 2 folds, CO calls.

Flop: (7.50 SB) [6h], [Th], [Ac] (2 players)
CO bets, Hero calls.

Turn: (4.75 BB) [2s] (2 players)
CO bets, Hero calls.

River: (6.75 BB) [9c] (2 players)
CO bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 8.75 BB

Results in white below:
CO has Tc Td (three of a kind, tens).
Hero has Kc Kh (one pair, kings).
Outcome: CO wins 8.75 BB.

I didn't like calling down here. He didn't cap, so he could have had a rather broad range of hands. My only thought was "there are flush and straight possibilities he'd be donking, I'm going to have to call down".

I have a hand like this, too. Let me see if I can dig it up.

Dude called down with an A6.

Commentary on how to play these hands would be nice.

Just curious... when 5- or 6-handed, what are the odds that another playter holds an A with one on the board?
