Flop: (11.50 SB) [4c], [9c], [8h] (5 players)

Turn: (7.75 BB) [3d] (4 players)

River: (19.75 BB) [7c] (4 players)
UTG checks, MP1 checks, MP3 checks, Hero checks.

Final Pot: 19.75 BB

Results in white below:
UTG has 3s 3c (three of a kind, threes).
MP1 has Td Js (straight, jack high).
MP3 has Ah Ad (one pair, aces).
Hero has 9s 9d (three of a kind, nines).
Outcome: MP1 wins 19.75 BB.

I called preflop because of the amount of people in the pot. The raiser was tight so I put him on an overpair but I thought I would win big if I hit.

It was a great flop but with the pot so big, I thought the best chance to get out draws would be to hope for a safe turn and raise to make them call 2 big bets rather than 2 small bets on the flop. I then got rivered by another solid player on his open ended draw which I don't think I could have gotten him off of. In actuality, it seems my best chance to make him fold was what I did on the turn but the pot was too big then. I was pretty sure the last card killed me with the straight or the flush so I took the cheap showdown and saved myself 2 or 4 bucks.

Thoughts on my play? Anyone play it different? Seems like I was doomed to lose this one.

I learned a long time ago to bet trips and bet them fast.

Here, it doesn't matter, because MP1 was going to stay regardless with his open ender. So, I think you saved yourself some bets there.
If you're gonna play trash, expect it to get taken out.

(I hate those people who quote themselves, but that's one of my original lines).

I would have played it the same way you did. There could be something said for raising the flop here since the pot is already starting to get big and forcing all the drawers to pay at least two bets to continue and probably more in this hand since the AA guy would have probably three bet. Actually if you were positive that the guy had an overpair I like this play better. The outcome is not going to change because I don't think you get the J10o guy to drop even facing 4 bets when it gets back to him because he already had put in two in this scenario. Tough beat, I never like losing but I hate losing with sets.

I knew he had an overpair by his stats and his play and I knew I had to wait til the turn to have a chance to push out draws but in the end, no dice. I'm glad to hear you would have played it the same piers. This turned my good session into an ok session, but I did release the party reload bonus so I guess its all good.
