I dont think there's really a single optimal line here. Usually with this mid pair type hand I like to get a raise in on either the flop or turn. Against certain players (maniacs and bet/fold types) i guess you can play it passively to induce, but generally speaking you want to take control since it also gives you cheap showdown options if scare cards fall. Also, If its 3-4 handed i like to mix in passive lines more for balance since these situations come up so often, its useful to create that doubt.
