Well, after the preflop-raiser 3-bet the flop I had him on an overpair. Considering I had one of the jacks the odds of him having a set weren't that big imo. Also my read on the donk (he was a HUGE donk) was that his range to minraise the flop like he did was huge, basically if he connected with the flop in any way, like middle or bottom pair, gutshot, anything.

I certainly couldn't fold with all that money in the pot, and I couldnt just call cause if I missed the turn I'd be in a nasty spot. I figured I had decent equity against these guys so I reckoned a push was +EV.

against those players (donk and the pfr) overpairs and crappy 2 prs come into play or even qj,kj or aj I think against those ranges and stack sizes the push is standard.

Even if he is beat both ways (higher fd and set ) the side pot comes into play to add back some ev.(aka he has plenty of outs (vs set, 2pr) or is slightly ahead (Axs) against the deeper stack)

Thanks for the comments. When making these decisions I feel it's necessary to act on your reads. As I said, the bigger stack was a gigantic donkey so there was no reason to assume he had a nut FD.

The preflop raiser had KK with no diamond, donkey had 32o for the openended idiot end of the straight draw. I had a dominating 0.5 equity in the main pot and absolutely crushing the donk in the side pot with him having 6 outs and having to dodge a diamond if he hit. The river actually shipped 7d so I stacked em both for 300bbs.
