1/2NL Guess My Hand

Postby Mad Genius » Sun Jan 23, 2005 11:15 pm

I played this one a bit differently so I want to see if anyone can figure out what I had (or come close). I didn't particularly like my turn and river play here and I'd like to know what hand you would play the way I played the turn and river. Results will come in a bit.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $2 BB (9 handed)

saw flop|saw showdown

CO ($37.30)
Button ($290.95)
SB ($190.30)
BB ($285.30)
UTG ($106.40)
UTG+1 ($200)
MP1 ($200.55)
MP2 ($140.50)
MP3 ($247.90)

Preflop:
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 folds, MP2 raises to $6, MP3 folds, CO calls $6, Button folds, SB calls $5, BB calls $4.

Flop: ($24) [2h], [9s], [Ks] (4 players)
SB bets $6, BB calls $6, MP2 folds, CO folds.

Turn: ($36) [Jd] (2 players)
SB bets $10, BB raises to $30, SB calls $20.

River: ($96) [3s] (2 players)
SB checks, BB bets $50, SB calls $50.

Final Pot: $196

I was BB by the way if that wasn't clear. I didn't have a particular read on SB but I hadn't seem him do anything out of the ordinary yet.

I think you could have had AQ spades with a chance of 99.

You raised when the jack came out, but I can't really put you on a hand where that card helps. It looks like you either slowplayed a set or AK, or semibluffed with a flush draw after SB's weak bet.

[Js][Ts] Because that might be how i would play it. You paired with a flush draw and gutshot on the turn, making you raise, a play I like. Then the flush hit and you still called a big bet. You couldn't raise because you didn't hold the nuts.

So that's my guess.

Keny...just for clarification, I was BB, not SB. I made the river bet, I didn't call it. Besides, do you really think I'd bet $6 into a $24 pot and then follow that up with a $10 bet into a $36 pot? Give me some credit now. :)

Oh..yeah I knew you were in the BB. I just thought for some reason the SB led out in front of you on the river for $50. idiot me.

So I still stand by [Js][Ts] i guess. That hand still makes sense to me.

AJ spades would be my initial guess. However, because you stated you didn't like your turn/river play it leads me to believe maybe an AKo?

I play A-anything of spades exactly like that. But I wouldn't be unhappy with myself after I did it, so I'm hoping that's not what you held. :)

Alright. I had [Ts][8s]. I flopped the flush draw and turned the straight draw. Does anyone like my turn raise? I thought about it and if he has a strong King he is probably calling a $20 raise. It would probably have been better if I raised to $40 or $45. Either that or I could have smooth-called. Once I made my spade draw, I feel like I should have made more on the river. He should have a tough time putting me on spades since I raised the turn, and if I bet BIG, then I assume he would be more likely to put me on a bluff. Would a $80-100 bet be more effective here? I don't want to be results-oriented but he insta-called the $50 so I think he most likely would have called more.

It depends what he had of course, but I think $50 was about right.

I like the turn raise -- SB is betting $10 into a $36 pot. That's weak. If he doesn't drop to your raise, you're more likely to get paid off on the river if you hit.
