How did you know Wivil was going to bet that river. I just dont understand what he is doing in the hand if he is not wiling to call all in on the river. And why did he bet? How did you know he was going to bet the river?

Do you think he is good enough to lay down the str8 or did he overplay AQ?

personally, i thought it was as obvious as anything that he held AK here. what else would he call an UTG raise with, check the flop in position against two opponents, and then min raise the turn with? AK is just the only hand that makes any sense. there is *no* way he checks the flop, min raises the turn, and then just smooth calls the call/all in from the shoritie other than AK. if he has TT, 77, or QQ, then my play makes no difference, as our stacks will be in on a paired river regardless of how i play it. AQ doesn't even begin to make sense.

I think he puts *me* on AK, maybe [Kh]. maybe [Qh], maybe [Th], maybe even a mid SC of hearts. but with just 360 hands and being a slight loser, i don't see how he doesn't make some sort of river value bet on AK here.

Then again, this is the reason i posted. i'm wondering what other people would do with this hand on the river. but personally, i think AK is the only possible holding for him on this hand.

This hand looks fine.

You got roped in the way the turn action went.
It's very obvious that at least one of them has AK.
But since it was never much more money to you, you're getting good odds to fill up.

Given turn action I think Wivil shows up with KQ or 89 or something more often than AK.
I am pretty sure most people would push AK in that spot when the betting was reopened.

Anyway, I prefer betting the river because with a guy all-in and a dry sidepot he'd usually have to have a monster here to bet if you checked to him, because he still has to beat the all-in guy so can't bluff.
And if he does have a monster then he's going to call or raise your river lead anyway.
Whereas he could call a smallish bet with a twopair type hand that would otherwise check behind.

I'm just curious as to why you didn't CB. Is one of them a CS, or are you just trying to keep the pot size down OOP? (No criticism implied, just trying to improve my game).

north, to answer your question, i make a CB here probably 90% of the time.

However, the shorter stack in the hand had been calling a *lot* of flop bets. If i bet out (which would likely be $50-$60, he'll have ~ $120 left, and the pot will be over $180 (assuming he's my only caller). with the obvious straight draws out there i simply can't check and give up the pot to him, as the only reasonable hand i'm behind is Qx. So i'll have to put him in an any non A or K turn, and i just didn't feel like putting in $170 here with the overcard on board.

Anyways, Wivil went into the tank on the river, called time, and finally told me he was folding AK. I think if i just bet out $300 he would have had to have called. Hell, with how hard it was for him to lay it down, if i had just flat pushed into him he may have called. It just seems like of the three choices i had on the river, this was the worst one.
