Like was mentioned already, if youre going to bet your flush draw, bet it like you would if you had a made hand. Bet 3/4 pot or so.
Whether or not its profitable depends on a few factors such as
1) How many other players are in the hand. You need to be able to take it down right there with no resistance some percentage of the time and that wont happen often if theres 5 other people in the hand. In other words, if its heads up, I would bet every time. If its 4 to the flop, i would bet sometimes but not every time, especially if there are 2 callng stations in the hand.
2) Texture of the flop. Betting a flop like
[4h][2s] when you have
[9h] is a good idea most times because you probably wont get called unless the guy has a K. He wont have a K that often and even if he does, you probably still win if an ace falls, because he most likely doesnt have AK in an unraised pot, so you now have 3 more outs.
3) How often will you get paid off when the flush hits the turn. In my experience, this is most of the time because people dont even consider that you might have a flush when you bet the draw.
