bunch-o-hands - spots I am currently uncertain off...

Postby RedBarracuda » Sun Nov 18, 2007 10:16 am

Plz.. comments on hands and streets very welcome... I will post them with results since some of them didn't go to showdown, but I am interested in what you think..

HAND 1:
$0.5/$1 No Limit Holdem
6 players
Converted at

Profiles and Stacks:
Hero ($246.33) 19.8/16.7/2.2 (126)
UTG+1 ($98.50) 19.4/4.8/3.7 (62)
CO ($110.86) 29.6/18.3/7.0 (71)
BTN ($102.00) 30.8/14.4/9.8 (299)
SB ($133.91) 19.4/12.8/3.2 (1170)
BB ($178.76) 24.4/4.9/2.6 (1292)

Pre-flop: ($1.5, 6 players) Hero is UTG [Kh][Kd]
Hero raises to $7, 3 folds, SB calls $6.5, BB calls $6

Flop: [2d][2h][Jh] ($21, 3 players)
SB bets $12, 1 fold, Hero raises to $44, SB folds
should I be raising here or is a call in order and then raise the turn if there's no flush? or something completely different?

Final Pot: $77

Hero wins $74.75 ( won +$23.75 )
BB lost -$7.00
SB lost -$19.00

HAND 2:
$0.5/$1 No Limit Holdem
6 players
Converted at

Profiles and Stacks:
UTG ($120.93) 20.1/6.2/2.4 (144)
UTG+1 ($123.28) 71.1/20.4/1.7 (304)
CO ($163.26) 25.5/20.0/2.2 (110)
BTN ($33.50) 33.3/0.0/1.0 (12)
Hero ($99.00) 17.5/13.8/2.4 (160)
BB ($144.09) 33.3/19.0/1.2 (21)

Pre-flop: ($1.5, 6 players) Hero is SB [7s][5s]
1 fold, UTG+1 raises to $4, 2 folds, Hero calls $3.5, 1 fold

Flop: [9d][3s][Js] ($9, 2 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 bets $3, Hero raises to $17, UTG+1 calls $14
probably not the best idea to call with 75s here but against this guy, it's well worth it I think.. I was thinking of pushing him off his hand right away, and since he called the big C/R I was willing to give up right after that..

Turn: [5d] ($43, 2 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 checks

River: [4c] ($43, 2 players)
Hero checks, UTG+1 checks

Final Pot: $43
Hero shows: [7s][5s]

Hero wins $40.85 ( won +$19.85 )
UTG+1 lost -$21.00

HAND 3:
$0.5/$1 No Limit Holdem
5 players
Converted at

Profiles and Stacks:
UTG ($115.10) 20.1/6.2/2.4 (144)
CO ($109.06) 25.5/20.0/2.2 (110)
BTN ($248.60) 17.7/9.7/6.3 (288)
SB ($43.50) 37.5/6.7/1.0 (120)
Hero ($100.00) 17.5/13.8/2.4 (160)

Pre-flop: ($1.5, 5 players) Hero is BB [6d][6h]
1 fold, CO raises to $4, BTN calls $4, 1 fold, Hero raises to $17, CO folds, BTN calls $13
is this a bad idea to do? Is simply calling better? do I need specific read to do it?
Flop: [4s][5h][Kc] ($38.5, 2 players)
Hero bets $33, 1 fold

Final Pot: $71.5

Hero wins $69.58 ( won +$19.58 )
CO lost -$4.00
BTN lost -$17.00

HAND 4:
$1/$2 No Limit Holdem
5 players
Converted at

Profiles and Stacks:
UTG ($224.05) 70.6/2.9/0.7 (34)
Hero ($200.00) 26.1/13.0/0.8 (46)
BTN ($69.45) 17.4/0.0/6.0 (23)
SB ($101.86) 41.7/22.2/2.4 (36)
BB ($82.03) 88.9/0.0/0.4 (18)
you see what kind of players villains are... should I play it differently because of that?

Pre-flop: ($3, 5 players) Hero is CO [Tc][Td]
UTG calls $2, Hero raises to $9, 1 fold, SB calls $8, BB calls $7, UTG folds

Flop: [Kd][Th][3h] ($29, 3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $19, SB folds, BB folds

Final Pot: $48

Hero wins $46.55 ( won +$18.55 )
SB lost -$9.00
BB lost -$9.00
UTG lost -$2.00

THANKS!

#1 is standard. When they lead weak they often have nothing at all. When they lead weak with top pair they're not folding. There's no way most players lead with trips or a boat here. so you're ahead 99.99% of the time. Raise it now in case he's on the FD, make him pay.

#2 I hate the preflop call unless you have a read he's someone you can outplay postflop. Turbomuck please.

#3 Totally fine as a way to mix things up, nicely done. If you turn into a light 3-better all the time, opponents will adjust and you'll have to adjust to their adjustments, which gets tricky.

#4 Of course you bet this, any A Q J or heart comes on the turn and you could be behind. Get the money in the middle. If they fold they fold.

1. Raising is fine, but I often just call and get it in on the turn.

Squeezing is when someone raises and get a caller, and you then 'squeeze' the raiser by re-raising, putting him between you and the caller for double pressure (one of you is likely to have a hand, right?).

Your reasoning is that since the caller didn't re-raise, he shouldn't hold a hand like AA-QQ/AK that can call a 3-bet, and the preflop raiser will be hard pressed to call with anything but a premium hand since you're showing so much strength. And HT2 is right, you kind of prefer doing it with either a huge hand or something very speculativehand that doesn't have much value in calling with but can still flop big. A hand like 66 is profitable by just calling.

You don't want to do it with 66 because if you get 4-bet, you will now reaslise that calling would have been very profitable since your opponent has a big PP (or AK), exactly the hand you want to see a flop against. If you get 4-bet with 86s you can just dump it without regrets.

Hand 1:
I like calling here and then shoving the turn. I think it gives him a second chance to fire another barrel when he's behind. If he's a complete donk flush chaser or whatever then raising is probably a better choice, but for most villains who don't suck that bad I think you make more when you just call.

Hand 2:
I don't mind a call vs. SB if you have position on him but (and you know it's coming) just fold pre-flop. As played I think a call is better since he is giving you great odds and a CR just looks too much like what it actually is - a draw. I say keep the pot small until you hit your hand. I don't think there's much FE vs. a villain with 70% VP$IP.

Hand 3:
Calling here will definately show you more profit in the long run. Firstly you are OOP. Second, when you DO get called, overcards are going to hit you on almost every single flop. What is your plan there? It makes your decisions post-flop very very difficult. When you just call here and you hit your set, you would also rather be playing vs. 2 opponents than HU, as you are more likely to get paid off.

Hand 4:
Standard. You need to protect your hand on this draw heavy flop. Considering how loose your opponents are, you could expect them to chase you with anything. Here they had nothing, tough luck.

PS: What site is this? And how do you get WT to post villain stats?

Hand 1: I like it, but I don't raise so much preflop, UTG or not. Personal preference I suppose and since you got two callers, perhaps that is the right move.

Hand 2: I like this one too, but I don't feel like you really had a plan for if you got called on your flop C/R. Did you? Did you really WANT to check it down?

Hand 3: I don't like your preflop reraise OOP. I think you make more money on this one in the long run by calling PF and hitting your set.

Hand 4: I bet more on the flop, but it seems standard to me.

Just read other replies. I am surprised that people really HATE calling PF in the SB with 75s. That seems like a minimal mistake, if a mistake at all, to me. I like calling here to mix it up and possibly take down a big hand.

I think the question to ask is: If I call here, what is my opponent putting me on?
