At full ring I'm always doing my best to take notes at who will take stabs and who is passive when the pot checks to them. If I'm in the BB vs the SB and one limper, and I have a note where the limper did not take a stab in the same situation, then I will check the flop and if the guy checks behind, I know he has zip and I'll take a stab at any low turn. Works like 80% of the time with the right notes.
If the guy does take stabs regularly, especially if he's a regular, I will sometimes throw out a checkraise with air just to see if my read is right and he instafolds. Good info to have.
This is only 3-way pots though where I'm second to act, or heads up pots. With 2+ guys to act behind you, taking stabs oop with zip is usually spewing imo.
