crazy 2/4 NL hand. need thoughts and advice.

2/4 NL Prima

i have $450
opponent has me covered.

My opponent is probably the best player on the site on the limits i play.. Aggressive, plays good and bad hands, great player post-flop....iceman knows to who i'm refering. Everytime i have ever called him down i've lost though lol.

I'm dealt [4s][6h] in the SB. My opponent limps in UTG+2. I complete. BB raps.

FLOP
[4h][4d][7d]

I lead for $8. The BB calls. My opponent raises to $40...I raise to $128..the BB folds...he reraises to $192.

The only thing I can put him on is either A4s, pocket 77, [5d][6d] or [Ad][Kd]. I don't believe he'd play AA like this but the thought occured to me after the hand. I played my hand so strongly he might have thought I held a high pocket as well. The raise looks like it wanted to be called.....

So I fold.

He mucks as usual and I'm left having no idea what he has.

So what did he have?? Was my fold correct? How can I play this differently to either save myself money or extract the most as possible? Or did I play it fine??

thanks in advance.

I assume I knowwho youre talking about. I think he probably had A4s.
I dont think I wouldve reraised him on the flop, but it may be good thing you did.

I cant remember ever seeing him limp with a big pair so I doubt thats what he had (especially UTG+2).

My question would be... why even complete with 64?

Yuck - tough spot!

I initially didn't like the reraise, as I think it pretty much defines your hand as containing a 4. But after his raise I think the best result is probably taking the pot down straight away - if you get it all in on this board in an unraised pot with a good player, then trip 4s no kicker is not going to win.

How did he raise to $192, incidentally - wasn't your last reraise $88? So the minimum rereraise $216?

I think I'd fold too, ugh - A4s seems most likely if he plays loose pre-flop: if he's good I don't think he can play a draw in that way, with the board paired. I can't believe he's bluffing based on "knowing" you don't have 77. If he has 77 surely he flat calls your reraise, with position.

I think you probably played it best, but what do people think about calling the $40 raise, checking the turn, and awaiting developments? I'd fold to a big bet or a scare card (easy to claim after the event!).

The only real advantage is if that he's mucking about without a 4 or 77 then he'll probably slow down on the turn. Of course on the minus side you let him draw for free (or bluff you off the pot if he's behind but has balls of steel).

He doesnt have "balls of steel". He plays very TAG and doesnt make dumb mistakes or bad calls so hes a big winner, but he will overplay a hand now and then.

Hesnot bluffing here and not playing a draw that way. That much I can guarantee.

Based on the characterizations of this player given by Kenny and Ice I think you made a good laydown with your set.
