villain 60%VPIP after 50 or so hands. My observations of him show he's inexperienced and can't resist drawing. Did I lose my head here? He paused before calling, seemed like he was looking for that club. I think I would have expected a mini-raise if he really hit it.

If he has 60VPIP he's playing everything. Those types LOVE to call with any ace. Those types have trouble folding too, especially if they call a large bet. He might be drawing,

To beat the 60 VPIP guy, make TP and pound away. When they show strength back, fold as they can usually make a goofy two pair with 75o. I don't like trying to force them off pots when they are drawing.
