Draw vs flop min raiser (Party 400NL 6h)

Postby Smokin'Al » Sat Jul 08, 2006 5:21 pm

I don't think I'm playing well at the moment.

I read the flop min raise as a top-pair-type hand most of the time. I was planning to fold the turn unless I improved.

Fold the flop/turn? Raise the turn? Bombs away on the river?

Just sat down so no reads on villain.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $4 BB (6 handed) from (Format: Bet The Pot)

SB ($845.50)
BB ($372.10)
UTG ($808.68)
MP ($434.20)
Hero ($406)
Button ($358.20)

Preflop: Hero is CO with [6h], [5h]. SB posts a blind of $2.
2 folds, Hero raises to $14, 2 folds, BB calls $10.

Flop: ($30) [7h], [Jh], [7s] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets $22, BB raises to $44, Hero calls $22 (fold ???).

Turn: ($118) [8c] (2 players)
BB bets $65, Hero calls $65 (fold? raise???).

River: ($248) [Ks] (2 players)
BB checks, Hero ???

min-raises usually mean monster. That being said, I like a re-raise to $100. That should get any Jacks to fold.

There aren't many monsters on that board that min raise (a 7 will usually raise more to scare of flush draws) - plus my feeling in these games is that min raises in steal situations are often a "go away you have nothing" move...

Did you mean you wanted to reraise the flop to $100?! You're a braver man than me...
specifically, he's giving me good immediate odds and he may get stubbon with top pair on this board

With no reads, I fold the turn. You have no idea if he's the type of player capable laying down top pair (or even an over pair for that matter). Although a turn push if called would do wonders for your table image....

I must have odds to draw on the turn? I have an OESD + flush draw, eg 15 outs vs AJ

I agree about the reverse implied odds though. I think I should probably fold the flop on these sorts of flops, I just get myself into trouble.

Oh, you need to bet the river I would think. $130 should be a good bet, if he folds 1/3 of the time you break even and if he only has a J (which seems likely) there's a good chance he will fold. He could also have a higher flush draw (with or without the Ace). Either way I definetely think a bet is in order since he doesn't have a very strong hand.

Yeah I wish I'd had the cojones to bluff that river ... he had JTo, so I reckon I could have lost him at any point in the hand (maybe not the flop)

I've been practicing *not* auto-bluffing these spots lately...

I raise suited connectors alot, but when I have nothing but a draw and I get check raised on a paired board, I fold it.

Its a rule I dont violate.

Also, people who call raises with JT OOP and then make a wuss check raise still OOP with TPWK, dont fold. I bet he takes this to the felt every time.
