Hand Not Interesting Enough For It's Own Thread, Thread

Postby DoctorHandles » Wed Sep 12, 2007 12:20 am

Ok so I'm playing cards with my bud right now at $50 NL on Full Tilt. We came across this hand where we disagreed, so I really wanted to ask someone else for their thoughts. The problem is this hand isn't very interesting and I really didn't want to start my own thread for it.

So here's my idea. We can use this thread to post simple, uninteresting hands while not clogging the NL strategy forum. I'm not trying to suggest small stake hands aren't interesting and shouldn't have their own threads or anything, but this could be a great place to post really basic hands or do a "check up" on a few hands if you're running badly.

I hope you guys think this is a good idea, if not then lolz @ me. Here is the first hand....

Opponent is running at 55/5 I do not remember aggression numbers.

Full Tilt Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $0.25/$0.50
6 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $89.10
UTG+1: $41.65
Hero: $52.50
Button: $78.05
SB: $91.20
BB: $95.75

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is CO with [Js] [Jh]
UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, Hero raises to $2.25, 3 folds, UTG+1 calls.

Flop: [Th] [3c] [Ks] ($5.25, 2 players)
UTG+1 bets $0.5, Hero raises to $4.5, UTG+1 calls.

Turn: [5c] ($14.25, 2 players)
UTG+1 bets $5, Hero calls.

River: [3s] ($24.25, 2 players)
UTG+1 bets $9.5, Hero calls.

Results:
Final pot: $43.25

I'm not doing much these next few days before school other than hustling, so if anyone post any hands in this thread [especially micro players] I'll try to help answer them relatively quickly.
The better player should win the race. Always.

probably just the hand for this thread..

is this a justified PF call given the stack and pot sizes? UTG+1 has maniacal tendencies and is overbullying the table.. BB I don't know much about except he is tight and not too good..

Pacific Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $0.25/$0.5
6 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $58.41
UTG+1: $264.59
SuperHero: $50.7
Button: $37.95
SB: $117.55
BB: $47.05

Pre-flop: (6 players) SuperHero is CO with [5c] [5d]
UTG calls, UTG+1 raises to $3, SuperHero calls, 2 folds, BB raises to $12, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls, SuperHero calls.

Agree on folding JJ there, either on turn or river.

On the 55 hand ... no way you can call this. You're calling $9 PF to call the 2nd raise and the odds of you winning $90 or more when you hit are pretty much nonexistent: you'd have to triple up like 90% of the time.

Red, what NVG said is very good, but I'll go a bit more into detail.

Lets say you and your opponent are full stacked, and your opponent raises to $2 and you call. You're risking $2 to try to win his $50 stack, or getting a maximum 25:1 implied odds. This is pretty good, so it's usually a call.

Now lets say you raise to $2 and your opponent 3-bets you to $7. You're now risking $5 (the $2 you already raised is gone at this point) more to call and to try to win his stack. This follows the 10x rule, the only problem is that rule is retarded. You will not stack your opponent every time you hit, and on a low flop you won't know whether or not your opponent is packing 99+ or a whiffed AK/AQ. In addition, most opponents aren't stacking off with QQ on a AJ5 flop when you have 55.

So since we know we're not +EV purely for set value, we now need to be putting moves on our opponent when we miss in order to be make calling 3-bets preflop possible. But at NL$50 and NL$25, 3-bets the average guys 3-betting range is usually only JJ+/AK. So there's 16 combinations of AK and 24 of JJ+, which just isn't a very good range to screw around with.

Only calling 3-bets with AK, AQs, and TT+ is pretty exploitable, but it's unlikely you're going to have enough history with an opponent in 3-bet pots for this to be relevant.
The better player should win the race. Always.
