2 Hands: AA and AJ Top 2 Pair - 100$NLFR

Postby TheMoose15 » Wed May 17, 2006 9:30 pm

Hey everybody, first post in the NLHE section and these hands are from my first session of 100$NL. Basically I had no idea what was going on all night people were calling PFR with a huge range. The tables were far looser than expected. Below are a couple of the hands I feel that i played poorly. Jjust wondering what the general consensus would be on them. So here goes!

Hand 1: This is me playing scared, I know I should be raising somewhere in there but when I reveal his hand you will laugh. I just couldn't fathom him being on a weaker J with him firing away on the turn. So I figued I would try and show it down as cheap as possible. Bad line? No reads just sat down.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ Hero (10 handed) from (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

UTG+2 ($117.20)
MP1 ($60.29)
MP2 ($98.50)
MP3 ($90.45)
CO ($146)
Button ($161.94)
SB ($49.10)
Hero ($98.50)
UTG ($93.55)
UTG+1 ($150.51)

Preflop: Hero is BB with JImage, AImage. SB posts a blind of $0.50.
3 folds, MP1 calls $1, 1 fold, MP3 calls $1, 2 folds, SB (poster) completes, Hero checks.

Flop: ($4) 4Image, 5Image, JImage (4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $3, MP1 raises to $6, MP3 folds, SB folds, Hero calls $3.

Turn: ($16) AImage (2 players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets $7.64, Hero calls $7.64.

River: ($31.28) 8Image (2 players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets $14.47, Hero calls $14.47.

Final Pot: $60.22

Hand 2: Standard I guess, not really sure what is going on in this hand. I should have folded to the dreaded minraise on the flop, but with no reads on the player I figured to see what happened on the turn. I had no idea whether to call/raise/fold so I took the cheapest approach. Button - 40 hands, Vp$ip 7.5, PFR 2.5 (stats from end of session)

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (10 handed) from (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

Button ($96)
SB ($100)
BB ($142.40)
UTG ($115.69)
UTG+1 ($115.30)
UTG+2 ($56.01)
MP1 ($109.50)
Hero ($110.30)
MP3 ($97.50)
CO ($0)

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with AImage, AImage. SB posts a blind of $0.50.
4 folds, Hero raises to $4, 1 fold, Button calls $4, 2 folds.

Flop: ($9.50) 8Image, 3Image, KImage (3 players)
Hero bets $7, Button raises to $14, Hero calls $7.

Turn: ($37.50) 2Image (3 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $18, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $55.50

Will post results to hand 1 after a few responses, thanks for your analysis guys.

I don't think either hand was terribly played. A couple of observations:

Hand #1: I bet that turn for about $10 vs. check-calling. By check/calling, IMO you have no additional information regarding if he has a set or not, which I think is his most likely holding. If he had a set he likely would push or min-raise again, at which point I'd try to find the fold button. The only hand that I can think of that would min-raise the flop that you're beating on the turn is 4-5 (I'm disregarding J-4 and J-5). As played, I don't mind the river check/call.

Some may even advocate dropping the flop, but chances are Villian's not giving you the jack since you're betting from the BB. I don't hate the call.

Hand #2: He may very well have [Ac] [Kc]. This is tough. I probably take your line and fold on the turn based on his PT stats, the above-noted hand is very likely the only one you're ahead of here. Against a looser player, I lead out the turn and see how he reacts.

Hand1.
I don't like how you played it. His minraise followed by a weak lead on turn could be a monster, but it could be a straight draw/ Jack good kicker, so I would raise the turn almost always, and I am not sure I would fold to a push, as he could easily have 45 here, as it is Party.

Hand2.
Folding is too weak here, I would at least called him down. (Though I play mostly 6max).

Thanks for taking a look guys, I pretty much agree that I play these two very passively. It's probably just me not being used to the larger bet sizes and the general table climate at 100$NL. Anyways in hand 1 villian flipped over [Js] [5s] for the lower two pair. As for Hand 2 I also agree that calling the minraise was pointless if I plan on folding the turn to a half decent bet. I figure the best line would be to reraise him on the flop and fold to a push. Either way you've gotta love party [Js] [5s] = Premium!!!!
